Another Modem Upgrade 2020 Fusion Energi

I was thinking of upgrading the firmware from M to the latest, just to see. Worst case, I revert back.

Just a small warning, and I don’t know if it actually matters.
With the H TCU that was originally in my Fusion it was still on -G of the firmware and Ford IDS did not offer me -M until after I updated to -J first.
I’m not sure if -J is a pre-req to -M or not, and yes I know ForScan will let you go straight to -M.

And did M solve any issues?

I did upgrade to M in steps as warlock12118 suggested.
I went J, and then M. I actually did this before even authorizing the modem on the Ford system.

Today, I tried moving to Strategy HJ5T-14G139-UP.
This did not resolve the issue with go times.

I read that with the existing recall on the BCM issue (Possibility of the battery causing issues, and in extreme cases fire) Ford has disabled go times. I have no idea how accurate this information is.

I have not noticed any negative effect of this firmware yet.

That could be true. From what I have seen in Oasis they could be replacing the whole battery for that recall. Well see.

For me on the first go around I was going to -M to see if I gained any functionality (eg TPMS) compared to what I had and I didn’t.
Previously I had done Energi 3G to 4G TCU upgrades and it seems -M is the minimum to get one more or less working correctly with the TCU.

Curiosity question,
What did you use as a source for the TCU’s AsBuilt config?
If you used the AB from a Hybrid, Bill posted his further up the thread and the differences between it and a Hybrid all deal with things like charging door/port status etc.
It could be that your issue is that you are missing those settings.

Source for the as built config?
You might be on to something, as I did not use a source, I just changed the existing values to these:

Where do I get the correct ā€˜As Built’ to upload?

In ForScan go into the TCU as built and one of the options is to Save All.
This writes out the current AB to a file that can be uploaded.

My notes shows 754-02-01 1A20 for the Energi based on Bill’s Ford official upgrade that was done on his car. The value for the Hybrid is 00A0.

Thank you for putting the time in to this and sticking with me. I’ll try this tonight.

Ok, I just tried updating 754-02-01 to 1A20.
I then did a master reset on the display (APM?).

Interestingly enough, after re-authorizing the car in Fordpass, I see no difference.

There is also no difference in the go times, The top right can not be turned to ā€˜ON’.

Interesting that I see no difference in fordpass. Both settings show battery charge.

Try using ForScan to do a reboot/reset of the TCU.
It sometimes can take a day or so before FordPass picks up the changes, when I changed my TCU from an H to a J series it took close to 3 days before the app began showing the TPM.

I performed a TCU reboot/reset as suggested a couple of days ago.
Go times still can not be turned on.
I’d love it is someone else with a 18-20 Fusion energi saw this and tried their go times to see if it could be turned on.

Everything else works, including TPM in the FordPass app.

Were heading in to warmer weather, so go times are no big deal. Honestly, even mid winter all I have to do is remote start the car in the garage as I dont have to worry about exhaust fumes.

If anyone has any other thoughts and would like me to give it a try, tust post.

I have no option in my 2020 for Ford Pass to turn on Go Times.

Hi Bill, the options for go times are under charge settings on the Sync3 screen. Somehow they are tied in to the TCU, so I was hopeful there would be the ability to turn them on with the modem upgrade.

Ah, I misunderstood you. I will see if they work on mine. I want to say I messed with it a few months ago and they did but I don’t use them.

Yeah, unfortunately Ford killed off the option to set Go Times and Value Charge locations (among a number of other features…) within FordPass itself for our older plug-in vehicles which really sucks. They can still be done via Sync within the vehicle however. Funny considering the TCU does all the work internally.

The only gotcha is you can no longer set custom Value Charge locations so if you Master Reset, you lose anything that was previously set. Found this out recently. For a time the old locations would pull back down from Ford after reactivating FP but that’s no longer the case now.

It just seems very strange that I can’t turn mine on.
Here’s a pic of exactly what I’m talking about to avoid confusion.
This is under settings - charge in sync.

What part numbers do I need to get for this?
