APIM values: 2013 F150 Platinum inherited SYNC 3 APIM+Screen from 2016 F150 Lariat

As the title states I have a 2013 F150 Platinum that inherited SYNC 3 APIM+Screen from 2016 F150 Lariat.

The 2013 F150 had SYNC 2 (MyFord Touch). I am doing a retrofit w/ the APIM+Screen from the 2016 Lariat F250

The APIM model is VV87VMAX FRDNB HL3T-14G370-GCD
Picture can be seen here

The issue I am having is about Navigation. I get the “Navigation fault, please contact dealer” on SYNC startup, once I press OK navigation works just fine??

I have tried two separate antennas from one from eBay (FAKRA C Aerial GPS Antenna) and another from Amazon (Eightwood). Same results w/ both. They were both cheap aftermarket ones

Here are my APIM asBuilt values:

Any suggestions here? If this is an issue w/ the APIM it self, can this message be suppressed?

What DTC’s does Forscan show you have?

I see one code:

B119F - GPS Antenna - Open Circuit (Malfunction Indicator Lamp* is off for this DTC)

I don’t know if this is because I am no longer using the SYNC 2 antenna, perhaps it left dangling and reporting this or if this is an issue w/ my Eightwood antenna.

As I said Nav works after pressing OK.

I read this topic: Nav Fault on sync 3 - FORScan forum seems like a user tried a brand called Xtenzi is was successful after two previous antennas failed

Thx

That DTC is just because the antenna is not grounded through the body which the OEM one does. You get the same thing with the TCU antenna’s.

It very well could be what’s causing the error. I don’t know what to change to get rid of that as it’s the first time I have heard of it happening.

I’ve been mostly testing in my garage, so yesterday I was out driving around and I am noticing that the issue with the GPS fault on APIM boot seems to be resolved. I will keep an eye on it.

Maybe the GPS system needed to be outside for a bit to catch its bearings??

Hard to say but if it is fixed than take the win!

It’s pretty well known that trying to get an initial signal from GPS inside a garage is unlikely to work, once it has a signal and then you go in a garage it’s not too bad.
