Asbuilt from a 2020 Fusion

That’s only Sync 4…
Did you reload your asbuilt and perform a master reset?

I did on the F* change.

Any idea what a 2020 Fusion in NA is using? Bonus points for the calibration files from a 2020 IPC. I find this interesting, mainly because i see lots of people with success doing this. My lunch breaks at work have basically been going out to my car, firing up my laptop and trying what is suggested

If I blow it up, i can do an APIM swap in under 10 minutes now.

I’ve never gotten one. If i pull the GPS antenna i do get one.

Oh yes, loaded the AB in that I have running in my 2020 US NAV L APIM and then did a master reset and module reboot (actually took that to clear out the B&O icons).
It’s had 4 or 5 master resets since, plus 2 reformats with the FMods method.

Digging through 3.4.x history for a difference that was specific to EU NAV APIMS and the only thing I can find is the 3.4.21194 build that was EU specific.

That version caused serious SiriusXM issues.

I have found some mentions on the Bronco and Explorer websites that reloading the maps clears up the stuck in Michigan issue. I’m still looking for a smoking gun on this issue, but a corrupted map load would make sense.

Why is your country code set to 554B UK? That is the donor or what you are running?

That’s the donor AB, I’m running the same AB I had loaded in my US NAV APIM for over a year.
I put that up to see if anyone saw anything glaring because comparing it against a US 2020 Escape and a US 2022 Edge both with NAV I don’t see anything glaring but the country code and the DAB.

Here’s the testing recap so far and it’s focused on NAV all using the EU 64GB N NAV APIM:
My AB running 3.4.21194 with F10 EU maps shows the NAV stuck in Bristol UK, but no GPS error and the GPS diagnostic menu shows no satellites, compass works completely when bit is flipped to disable NAV.

My AB running 3.4.21194 w/ NA2.20 has the NAV stuck in Dearborn and also throws a GPS error (no DTCs unless the cable is unplugged) and the diag menu shows no satellites, running 3.4.23188 w/ NA2.22 shows the same behavior as does 3.4.21265 w/ NA2.22
Compass does not work fully when NAV is disabled, compass on cluster spins at random,
diag still shows no satellites. (When this is done on my US NAV APIM the compass works correctly).

MY AB running 3.4.21194/3.4.21265/3.4.23188 with maps removed and the bit flipped to no NAV , calibration flipped to no NAV the compass works normally.

Repeat all the above scanarios with calibration flipped to NA NAV/no NAV, no change
Donor AB loaded, no change.

So this gets down to other possibilities in the car because we know that NA & EU are not 100% equivalent or necessarily built the same.

If we look at the APIM behavior it’s acting like there’s another GPS source in the car that its looking for which could be something standard in a EU build like say a GPSM (which would explain why folks can take a US car to the EU and load partial maps with a working NAV), the module could be being used as a faux copy protection key. In some parts of the world maps updates are free by law, so this could be a way of enforcing it.
The other module possibility is the TCU, yes in NA this is largely a Sync4 item but there’s been speculation about the full function of the 3rd blue FAKRA on the Puma/Kuga Sync 3.4 EU TCU and if Ford holds to standards blue is the color for GPS. My APIM is sourced from a PUMA.
Either of the above would mean that the NAV is looking for GPS data across the HS bus instead of it coming from the APIM GPS connector.

The above would mean that there’s either a physical difference in the APIM beyond having 64GB vs 32GB or that there’s an actual difference in the underlying Sync3 OS.

My car doesn’t have a TCU, so this could be something. Does the original car this thing came out of (I can never keep these Europe names straight, and this looks like a platform that doesn’t exist in the US) have a TCU or GPSM? Another thought I had; does a standalone GPS antenna work? Since they don’t have S-Band satellite radio in the EU. Long shot, because the testing seems to show GPS works for the compass, but I’m thinking out loud here.

Mine does have a factory TCU (and btw its not hard to add one), US ones prior to Sync4 are just cell LTE and WiFi modem, no third connector.

As far as a TCU, yes the donor did have one as well as a shark fin that shows as GPS enabled, part number is the same as the one on the 2020 Escape Ti which has a US non GPS TCU.
