Back screen after update to v.3.4.23188

Mmm… that’s strange…
Unless I misread, you do not have forscan and an adapter…

If that’s the case, try creating an interrogator log and running it against the unit.
Make one setting 3.0.xxxx as current build, and one with the 3.4 you tried to update to… Check if any XML file is generated as it should… if it’s, pleas share that with us (redact the VIN from the name and content if you care about it).

I do not have forscan indeed
I tried to create an interrogator log.
Unless I’m worng (which is possible) the software does not allow me to change any setting from 3.0xxx to 3.4
So I let it build the usb drive, plugged it in the car, saw the usb light at the beginning which probably said that it was working but had no feedback on the screen…so i let it inserted for 2 mns, just in case, no light on the usb after the 1st 5 to 10 seconds.
Plugged the usb stick back to the laptop, select the “Open file” option but it could not find any xml file on the stick…
ps: how long would it take for the xml file to be generated?

That is not correct. Syn3updater will allow you to set your current build to whatever you want. The interrogator log is Sync3 version dependent, so that’s why I’m asking to create 2 interrogator logs: one for the last known Sync3 version the unit was running and one for the one you tried to update to.

Here’s the thing, based on your comments, what I get is that after the “upgrade in progress” at the top of the screen appeared and you interrupted the process, next time the unit started it did so into a black screen. You never saw a mustang logo, or a red o green screen…

That alone tells me the reformat tool installation did not went through, hence the unit should be running the old Sync3 version.

Now, why did it went into a black screen?, that I do now know.

But without data, this is all a guesstimate

What a pain this situation is… probably put myself in on my own…
OK, so i changed the Syn3updater set up to the v3.0 the Ford website said I had updated to, then prepared the usb files, plugged in the car but no file is created.
I thought it would be good to check if the usb plug was reading anything so i connected my iphone with Waze: if i plan a direction, the waze screen on my iphone would change to directions only and the map would show on the screen. Even if the car screen remains black, the iphone screen switching to directions says that the data transfer to the car screen.
Well it is not, nothing happens: the iphone charges but no data seem to transfer…
So the usb plug seems not to operate anymore: I have probably spent 2 to 3 hours today trying to upload stuff that are just not read by the car…

At this point I’m running out of ideas.
Again, I’m focusing on the fact that based on your story the unit never got into the reformat phase. If it never went into the reformat phase, it should still be running the original version.

Other than leaving the car without a connected battery over night to force a cold boot, options are really limited. (specially you not having forscan and an adapter).

There’s the simple possibility that his screen died and it has nothing to do with trying to update to 3.4.

Hi all
Just to keep you posted: I have now planned a visit at the local Ford center in early April. We’ll see where it goes between rebulding the software or having to replace the module…
