Repeated tries all lead to the same error listed in the subject. I’ve followed the manual instructions (no Windows computer for automated) in detail a few times and it all leads to the same outcome. I found one other post about something similar but they were missing the Reformat package and I am not. Posting photos to show what I have run into so far, as well as my formatted USB key. Any ideas on what I am missing here?

Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
Bad Installation File - One or more of the files being installed on your system did not install successfully.
Yeah, being your first message requesting free support to update your unit for free using the tool, you are missing the minimum amount of education or decency to say words like “Hello” or “Thank you”… It’s as if you even think that we are obliged to provide you with a service (which would not justify the lack of education either, btw).
I have zero interest in helping people like you, maybe others will.
Whoa. Message heard, loud and clear. It definitely was not my intention to come across as ungrateful or unappreciative of what this site has given; for free. Like you said, this is my very first post and honestly I don’t have much experience in forums. I think this can be chalked up to a lack of education on forum edict as I was simply trying to present as much data in as little of a message as possible.
On a more technical level, for anyone else that is interested in trying to help, I believe I need to first update Sync to v3.0 using the method directly from Ford. Unfortunately I already replaced my USB module and had the update running for over an hour without any change. Tomorrow I am going to reinstall the old USB module, try the Ford update again, and if that is successful try the update from this site to get to 3.4.
Thank you to anyone willing to go on this journey with me and help along the way. Cheers!
There’s an old thread where F150Chief comments that you may need to get to build 2.2.17011 first due to an issue with the disc overlay Ford used early in Sync3.
Here’s a link to 2.2.17011, you’ll need to manually build the USB and its not too hard to do that.
Don’t be surprised if you have to replace the USB media hub if you go to 3.4.x
@warlock12118@CyanLabs - Amazing! Thank you both so much. That has worked like a charm and I officially have CarPlay working. I was able to use the 2.2.17011 file to upgrade (it took about 30 minutes) and then upgraded again to 3.0.20204 (which only took about 10). Got my updated USB module installed and CarPlay started working after a master reset.
Couple follow up questions -
If all I really care about was having CarPlay, is there any reason to upgrade to 3.4, or will that only affect the backend Ford software? I have the USB key ready to go but am holding off because I don’t want to potentially ruin my access to CarPlay.
I’ve noticed now that some times when I turn the car off and lock the doors, the screen doesn’t fully shut off. The Ford symbol goes away, but a laminated black screen stays on. Ideas on what could be causing that and if it’s due to the update?
I see now this is also in the FAQ. I’ve never used FORScan before… can someone explain what the “x” represents in this? Is this a unique build ID for my truck, and if so where do I find it?
“* In ForScan set the APIM As-Built 7D0-06-01: x1xx-xx”
