Black screen after update process

Hi at all. Sorry for my last incomplete topic but I was anxious to know if it could be possible to “restore” my Sync. I have a '20 Kuga produced in '19 (as I can see on Ford site with my VIM), so I tried to update my Ford Kuga Sync to latest version using Syn3updater and forcing downgrade mode (yes, I’ve read documentation). So after update process, Sync stucks on black screen. Is there any solution to unbrick the Sync?

So, you forced downgrade on a MY20… Wow…

Anyways, your unit is almost certainly dead.
Only way to be 100% sure is for you to remove the unit and check the stickers on it.

But the behaviour you are describing is a typical reformat on a MY20 unit, so chances are you will have to replace the APIM.

Also, I’m not sure why:
A) you forced an installation method on a MY20 car
B) ignored all the warnings
C) Disabled MY20 protection
D) Told Syn3Updater your unit had navigation but decided to omit all navigation packages.

Something does not add up…

Thanks for your reply. Yours are reasonable doubts:
A) I forced installation method because I thought my car was not a MY20 car
B) same as A
C) same as A
D) I wanted to update only Sync without maps, because I wanted to test a “clean” upgrade, faster if compared with the maps package

I made a sh*t :pensive:

Well, what’s done is done.
As said before, only way to be certain your unit is MY20 is for you to remove it and check the stickers.
Is it under warranty?.

Is there any documentation or guide to remove the unit? And don’t make other damages…
Yes it’s under warranty…

Since the warranty is still in place, my recommendation would be to go to the dealer. Just play dumb, say the unit does not boot and it’s inoperative. Of course, do not mention any of this to them.

It’s your best chance to avoid paying for a new APIM.

yes, I had already thought about it.

I’ll try to get documentation about remove the unit and check if is a MY20 or not.

That’s up to you, I would not mess with it any more since it’s under warranty.

Anyways, I’m sure there’s a video on YouTube to assist you in removing the unit should you chose to do so.
