Black Screen after update

sync version 3.0 build 20204 NAV Maps NA 1 18 Updated both the the newest updates cant remember the sync version 3.4xxxx and Nav was 21
Downloaded all the files and everything was successful. Inserted the USB into the truck and said it was complete pretty fast… couple seconds and said remove USB changes take place after restarting truck. As I was reaching for the USB, the screen went black. Disconnected the battery for a while and still nothing.
I updated my 2018 f 250 off the same USB(It worked great no problems) and thought I erased everything before I uploaded the files for the 150 but wouldn’t the files replace each other if they were on there?
At a lose. Please help!

I didn’t follow you, your history is a bit confusing.

But from what I get from that is the unit went into reformat mode and then the black screen appeared.
Do you have physical access to the unit?, is it 100% inoperative?.

You removed the usb before the installation was finished. There are 2 steps where the installation will tell you to remove the USB, the first step where the reformat mode begins, and then when the reformat is complete.

If you are lucky, just put the stick back in and see if the installation will recover.

At this point, this seems like a bricked unit.
Could you get physical access to the APIM?, there are two stickers on the APIM and screen with valuable information.

Are you sure the unit is 100% stock?, hasn’t it been serviced?.

where is the APIM located, behind the screen? I’m not 100% since I just got the truck last week when I traded my 250 in but wouldn’t be stock if it has the old version of sync and maps?

Yes, but to be completely sure the stickers are the way to go.
We had some issues with apparently older models with newer hardware that caused issues with reformat.
You see, if either the screen or APIM is MY20 or later, you can’t use reformat on them.

Also, forgot to ask you before: do you have forscan and an OBD adapter?.

Ok I understand thay. Yes i do have forscan. I connected it it said the APIM was good. Ill take a picture of that also of what it says when comnected to vehicle.

Here is the forscan log when I connected it to the vehicle. The “test failed” at the bottom is when I tired to run the APIM module.

Based on the APIM’s part number, that’s not MY20.
But as I said before, there’s only one way to confirm it: by looking at the stickers both the APIM and screen has.

Take a picture of them and upload them here.

Also, since Forscan seems to recognize the APIM, can you read the asbuilt?.

I do not think this is the issue since it seems you didn’t even get to see the reformat UI, but…

What are the 2 DTC’s in the FCIM?

Looks like Forscan finds the APIM just fine so it should not be dead.

B1083 FORD code possible causes Faulty Recirculation Damper Motor
Recirculation Damper Motor harness is open or shorted
Recirculation Damper Motor circuit poor electrical connection
Faulty Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Module
HVAC module in an F150 is the FCIM.

ford dtc B10B8:63-0a
FCIM button panel issue.
Being that this is accompanied by the above DTC, the recirc button is probably an issue.

Did you try the above suggestion?
If you are lucky, just put the stick back in and see if the installation will recover.

I have tried putting the USB back in twice while driving 30 min+ and nothing. Still haven’t had time to get the numbers off of the APIM and screen. I did get extended warranty when I bought it. Think I should just have a dealer look at it?

Ok so I tried both usb ports and nothing. Figured something was up so I plugged my phone in and it does not get power/charge anymore but does from the USB ports in the back seat. Checked fuses by passenger door and under hood and they are good. Thats probably why its not upgrading I am guessing? Whats the next step? Is there a way to do it when I get to the back of the screen and APIM? Haven’t had time to do that yet.

After doing some digging on this one I found that the JS7T-14G371-KHD is a service replacement module that was manufactured around Sept thru Dec 2019. This module is most likely to contain the new eMMC storage and video drivers NOT compatible with the reformat tool. The APIM is bricked.

This unit is a factory replacement module, which means that the original module for the vehicle was replaced under warranty. This unit is not the original APIM as it was not manufactured when the vehicle was built.
