Black screen on 2014 focus

Installed a Sync 3 screen and APIM and all i get is black screen. Have not done any asbuilt data program. Was under assumption that it would still power on.

If I need to program as built before it will work does anyone know what I need to change.

SYNC Region: NA

Navigation Variant: Non Nav

Manufacturer Year: Pre MY20

Install Type: Retrofit

Old SYNC Version:

New SYNC Version:

Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
No error message, just black screen.

Update Method: N/A

As built from original APIM

Code that set after installing new APIM

As built for new APIM

Screen part number

Sync 3 APIM part number

The APIM is supposed to already have sync 3 installed on it?
Did you or anyone try to do any firmware flashing/updates before you mounted it?
Are you sure you did correct connection when mounting the APIM, because that error means your apim isn’t connected well to your car so it can’t boot up. There’s a miscommunication/fault

Possibility #1 bad screen, #2 bad little yellow pigtail between the screen and the APIM, #3 bad APIM (eg someone tried to format a MY2020 hardware unit or update the firmware/calibration)

Is ForScan throwing any DTCs?

I did not and I don’t believe anyone else has tried to do a firmware update. This APIM and screen is from a 2018 Ford Focus.

Apim is properly connected

The only code was that U0140 in the APIM. But i can read the asbuilt data and it communicates with forscan.

Sorry if this sounds crazy but do you have any idea if the apim actually worked on the 2018 Focus before you got it?

A wrong asBuilt will just make your sync3 look buggy rather than total blackout. Black screen is bad connection or bad APIM hardware

I actually don’t it came from a junk yard.

Was this a 4” to 8” conversion or an MFT to Sync3 conversion?

The fact that you can see the APIM with ForScan and not have a missing/wrong screen DTC would seem to indicate that the actual LCD is bad not the driver board.

It has 8” MFT in it now. I am going to try and get another screen and APIM from the local parts salvage. To see if that makes a difference.

Just keep in mind that even if the donor of the APIM/Screen is a Focus it doesn’t mean that you won’t have to do some config tweaks with ForScan to get things working right.

You can’t use the MFT/Sync2 factory ASbuilt for your car and drop it into a Sync3 APIM.

Ok so i got a different screen and APIM and plugged it in and it works fine. Only issue is the nav screen says navigation fault and I scanned and got codes B119F GPS Antenna and U0140 Lost Communication with the BCM. Is there program tweaks i need to make for the NAV to work and those codes to go away.

Edit- Nav started working after key cycle.

GPS sounds like a weak antenna or bad placement.

The other may be due to needing to get a config in the unit that is compatible with everything else in a 2014 Focus.
