I have a question regarding syn3 updater as it says it wont need reformat required to install new maps. It should be done by downgrade and not reformat right?
Or i am missing something here? I have a my20 apim so i wanted to be sure.

Ok. But i checked on downgrade mode info that this mode is a combination of reformat and autoinstall. So that way i cant update on MY20 right? Maybe it works if i install sync3 version alone and then maps package?
You have 2 separate items here, updating Sync first and then trying to do the maps really have nothing to do with each other.
The first is are the maps ESN locked, if they are the only way to install them without buying the map from Ford is a reformat as this doesn’t require a valid license file.
Second issue is that you need to run the interrogator to verify that you don’t have a MY2020 hardware APIM. IF you have a MY2020 hardware APIM and you run the reformat you’ll brick the APIM.
