Chasing a few issues after upgrade from MFT to Sync 3 in 2015 Mustang

I have been upgrading my 2015 Mustang to have some of the newer hardware and features that came in later models. This includes the LCD gauge cluster, Sync 3, and the TCU for Fordpass connectivity. At this point, almost everything is working perfectly except for one item and a few DTC’s I haven’t been able to solve for. I figured I’d ask over here as the discussions here pretty much made this all possible. The only major issue I’m having is the navigation being 180 degrees out. I had not noticed this at first as I use Android Auto mostly and Nav is getting a mostly accurate position. When going down the road, the arrow is on the road but pointed backwards, and the map updates from the bottom like I’m driving in reverse. I’ve tried clearing the dead reckoning multiple times and even reversed the orientation of the GPS antenna puck with no change. I’m guessing it is in the AS-Built and I think it is the 2nd character in the 2nd string under 7D0-01, but wanted to ask here. The current line is 622A 0133 02. I can post the complete abt if that helps. Just let me know.

The DTCs I’m getting are as follows:
APIM U2101:00-0B
PSCM U0401:00-0A
IPC U401:82-0A
IPC U0533:56-0A
IPC U0534:56-0A

If anyone has any ideas on those or need to see abt for those modules, just let me know.
For info, APIM and IPC came from 2020 Mustang. ACM is the original 2015 unit. I had the 2020 ACM as well but couldn’t get it working right with my Shaker Pro system despite it not being a B&O blue plug model.

Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
no error messages on screen

You need to mount the APIM on the back of the screen in the right direction, unless the asbuilt is totally wrong. The ACM needs to be the 18D832 series to work with the newer hardware and the older vehicle, and you will need to add the additional wiring for the SiriusXM X40 series radios to the APIM and ACM. You will need to use an asbuilt from a 2016 Mustang with options like yours, this is the firat step. As far as the IPC, it is questionable if it is totally compatible, so you may have persistent DTC’s but maybe the IPC will work properly.

I may need to clarify. I never separated the APIM from the 2020 screen it was installed to. Everything looks perfect on it. The screen is not flipped 180. Just the direction of travel on the GPS. It is weird. I noticed the compass heading is also reversed. I’ll poke around on cars.com to see if I can turn up a VIN for a 2016 with similar options.

On the ACM, I saw the need for the extra wires for the needed for the Sirius data, but the issue I had with it was that I could never get it to talk to the Shaker Pro DSP, so it just kept the volume locked at 0. Putting the 2015 ACM back in lost me the mixed mode presets, but it also meant I didn’t have to figure out how to get the X40 wires added to the harness.

I think two of the DTCs in the IPC are just the fact that my car had BLIS from the factory and IPC can see the SODL and SODR modules but they don’t talk the same language. I tried disabling all of the BLIS and Cross Traffic stuff in the asbuilt, but the DTCs persist. At the end of the day, it is all working so I can live with them.

Also, F150Chief, thanks. Sincerely. The information you have shared on here over the years was a huge contributor to my success in doing any of this. I mean, I have the TCU fully functioning in my 2015 Mustang, complete with remote lock and unlock (Manual trans car so start was never in the cards) and I owe that specifically to you. Just wanted to make sure you knew how much your help and support in this community has assisted a newb like me in doing this stuff. You are very appreciated.

Edit: I found a VIN for a similar 2016. The only discrepancy is that it had Reverse Park Assist. I can’t seem to find a 2016 with similar options that doesn’t have that. I keep getting a server error when I try to pull the asbuilt on the Ford site. That VIN is 1FATP8FF3G5312545

Great work. I upgraded my 2015 Mustang from MFT to SYNC3 and added a TCU. Unfortunately I never got the Fordpass lock/unlock option.

When you did the upgrade for SYNC3, did you use a Ford OEM antenna and Ford OEM splitter?

The volume locked at zero is due to the missing wires between the APIM and ACM not due to it not talking to the Shaker system.

Adding the two wires between the ACM and APIM is easy. Got a couple of pigtails and scavenge the pins needed, used about 18 inches of wire, soldered the wire to the pins, wrap some harness tape around it, feed the wires from the APIM opening following the wiring harness present to the lower ACM opening, populate the open positions in each connector keeping the correct polarity, and you are done.

I have a convertible and saw that the later cars used two PIFA antennas, one at the top of each B pillar so I bought those antennas and their mounts and then figured out a way to attach their mounts to my body that didn’t have the provisions. I then connected both to the TCU (JR3T-14G229-AK) and fed it power and HS3 CAN. Brought it online, cleared the DTCs with Forscan that it had stored and performed a master reset of Sync. About 10 minutes after that, I could register the car in Fordpass but wasn’t provided any options once registered. Checked the asbuilt as I had not changed anything (but had not expected to as the TCU came from a Mustang) and didn’t find anything amiss there. I concluded that I was probably going to have to update the firmware on the gateway module, but then it just started working piece by piece. GPS location within a couple of hours and full function a few hours after that. I’m guessing it was just slow movement on the Fordpass server side as no changes were made at the vehicle level.
