New here, so sorry if this is redundant. I recently updated my new (to me) 2018 Ford Edge Titanium to Sync 3.0.23219 and Maps to 2.24 through Ford. Now I’m curious to update to Sync 3.4. I read as much as I could and watched some vids about the Syn3 software. I downloaded it, and filled in the info. When I get to maps version, I’d like to just keep my maps, as they are the latest, but it wants you to sel;ect a version. 2.24 is listed as ESN locked. Not sure what that means or how to proceed. Any explanations/help is appreciated.
SYNC Region: NA
Navigation Variant: Nav
Manufacturer Year: Pre MY20
Install Type: OEM
Old SYNC Version: 3.0.23219
New SYNC Version: 3.0.23219
Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
Havent updated yet
ESN or VIN locked is the association between the vehicle VIN and ESN of the APIM. These must match to be eligible for map updates. There is also a limited date range or expiration date determined by Ford, usually 3 or 5 years depending on the vehicle model. A 2018 Ford Edge Titanium would no longer be eligible for free map updates unless the vehicle was under a NAV subscription.
In essence, you are not covered for NAV updates from Ford. You can, however, update the maps using the Sync 3.4 using the reformat method. If you decide to do this, read all of the directions and run the Interrogator Utility to make sure that your APIM is not MY20+.
I’m still not sure what to do. I just recently updated my maps through Ford. My current maps is 2.24. How do I keep those and still update to Sync 3.4 with Syn3? I already ran the Interrogator, and it is not My20. I recall in one of the videos I watched, the gentleman had a choice pf “Kepp My Maps”, but I don’t seem to have that option.
so what’s the difference between maps 2.24 for Sync 3 and maps 2.24 for Sync 3.4? Basically, from what i’m hearing, there’s really no point in upgrading to 3.4 other than a simple ui uplift, which isn’t that significantly different. if you cant use the updated maps and its a convoluted process for the upgrade if you have maps, and its a downgrade on the maps, why update to sync 3.4?
Says who?, I said you can’t use the maps you paid for since they are for 3.0. (this is what you asked earlier). That does not mean you can’t install NA 2.24 maps while upgrading to 3.4.
Says who?, the process is pretty straightforward and takes less time than just updating maps.
Again, says who?, that’s wrong.
No one will answer that for you, it’s up to you to decide.
Do you want to stay on 3.0?, that’s fine, I’m still running 3.0 and I’m not planning on upgrading to 3.4…
