Could Someone Help me with Upgrading Sync 3 to the Latest Version?

Hello there,

I am new to the process of updating Fords Sync 3 system; and I am hoping to get some advice from this knowledgeable group. I recently came across the CyanLabs guide on updating Sync 3 to the latest version; and while the instructions seem thorough; I have a few concerns before diving in.

I am looking to upgrade to Sync 3.4 with the latest maps; but I have read some conflicting reports about issues like blank screens; failed installations; or system bricking if something goes wrong. I would love to hear from anyone who has successfully done this upgrade on a similar setup.

Is it better to use the CyanLabs Syn3 Updater over Fordโ€™s official update tool, and if so, why? Should I back up anything before starting the process? If yes, how do I back up my current system?

Are there any known issues with upgrading from Sync 3.0 directly to 3.4, or should I update to an intermediate version first? How can I ensure compatibility with my current region and avoid any issues with map updates?

Also, I have gone through this post; https://community.cyanlabs.net/t/no-build-number-could-not-update-sync-3-to-version-3-4-uipath which definitely helped me out a lot.

Lastly; I have seen discussions about USB drive formatting. What is the best practice here? Is FAT32 still the preferred format; or should I go with exFAT?

Thanks in advance for your help and assistance. :innocent:

  1. exFAT is required, FAT32 went away with MFT
  2. You need to give us more info with relation to model & year of the car, what is currently installed, etc.

You have a 2020 APIM based on your profile. You cannot use Cyanlabs to reformat and install the new maps or you will brick your APIM. You will need to get your maps from Ford.

Also please put valid info into your profile if you want valid answers to your questions. Are you really from North America?
