PROBLEM: Using MS Windows Sync3 updater, files shown in the above log were saved to a formatted removable 32G USB 3.0 as preferred per instructions. Sync3 recognized the USB and initiated the update. About 15 minutes into the update I received a red screen with what I recall as a mem_err03 message following one of the TAR.GZ files (I can’t remember which one and did not take a picture at the time of the error message. Attempted to reinitiate the install but the system is stuck on the boot screen. After all attempted resets (Pwr + Skip/Ignition cycling/USB removal) a red screen message appears indicating “error update packages not found”

SOLUTION: Post on community forums and tag @CyanLabs for possible solution before spending the $399 for a new unit with Sync 3.0 installed. Wishful thinking…

UPDATE: System only cycles through mustang splash screens. Prompts to insert USB five seconds after startup, however, a red screen with “error update packages not found” is displayed the exact instant anything is inserted into the USB port. If USB is unplugged, system resets the splash screen loop.

Recover the unit to Sync 3.3.19052, download 4U5T-14G381-AN_1552583626000.TAR.GZ. The file can be found in the APIM IVSU Database.

Follow the instructions below:

Create a USB drive (format as EXFAT) with a SyncMyRide folder.
Copy the file downloaded above into the SyncMyRide folder.
In the root of the USB place the DONTINDX.MSA file which you can obtain from the upgrade you previously performed.
In the root of the USB place the reformat.lst file attached below.
Insert USB in vehicle and wait for the installation to complete. You should see a message indicating completion.
Remove the USB drive and reboot the APIM.

This should force an update to 3.3.19052. You will be able to upgrade using the Syn3 Updater application from 3.3.19052 to the latest version of Sync 3.4.

But first, run the Interrogator Tool and see what the storage is available on the unit. Post the results here.

Thanks for the protip @F150Chief! Followed your advice and was able to install 3.3.

I attempted to run the tool without any luck. Instead, I updated to 3.4.21020 without Gracenotes to save space. The download was successful thanks to the Sync3 updater.

Can go back and add Gracenotes alone using the updater or should I try to run the tool again?

Use the -AC version of the tool. You can install GN independent if app. See the Guide section.
