Please advise. Thank you.

Is this the OEM APIM installed in the vehicle? Could you please run the APIM Interrogator and create an Interrogator Log and post it here?

Utility Tab - CyanLabs

Alrighty, did the interrogation. Got an XML file, but got an error “…does not contain a valid ECU Delivery Assembly Number” when trying to fetch the log using the utility.

The plot thickens.

This is not the original APIM as far as I know. The dealer said that they replaced it under warranty some months ago due to some issues.

Sounds like it might be a 2020+ APIM and you cannot reformat them without problems.

Correct me if I am wrong, but as far as I understand it, the issues arise when doing some of this with a MODEL YEAR 2020. Mine is a 2018. The dealer would not install a MY20 APIM in a 2018 truck under warranty.

Yes, you are wrong. MY20 has nothing to do with the vehicle itself, but with when the components (APIM and/or screen) were manufactured. You could have a 2017 vehicle with MY20/+ components.

Now, back to the log you provided: it’s weird.
I’m not feeling too good about this APIM. Not only it does not provide the APIM’s part number to the interrogator tool, but also the log shows it only has 5U5T-14G391-CR installed, which is a voice package.
The unit is almost free.

At this point, I’m not trusting this APIM.
Just to confirm the tool is working ok, please go into the Bezel Diagnostics and check for the ISVU part numbers (which are the packages the unit recognizes). Provide a photo of those.

Also, can you gain physical access to the unit?. The sticker on the unit would confirm if it’s MY20 or not.
Until that confirmation can be made, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REFORMAT IT.

Have you performed a master reset?.

The unit has the Sync app 3.4.22110 and the voice file -CR installed. GN was probably deleted by the installation script above, but the unit did not downgrade to 3.3.19052.

There are no maps installed on this unit! The only way to delete the maps is with reformat. (Other than the FM tool.)

What does this statement mean, “add maps back in for my nav”?
Were there maps on the unit previously?
Did you reformat the unit with only the app and no maps?

2018 F150 would have come with Sync 3.0, most likely, so what was the original software installed in the APIM when the dealer replaced it?

Sync 3.0 was originally on the replaced apim. I could not get the update to 3.4 to work. I tried to do the app and voice only with the intention of install the maps separately later on. I did not realize at the time that a full downgrade and reformat would have been needed to accomplish this.

Either way, after messing around with it for a while last night I got the whole thing to work.

The all in one downgrade and reformat was obviously not working for me. What did work was doing them separately. I did a downgrade auto install thumb drive first, which got me to 3.3. I then did a reformat 3.4 thumb drive with all the maps and such and that worked as well.

All is well. Thank you for your help guys.
