Error message 'instl_err12' when updating their SYNC system?

Updated my SYNC 3.0 to 3.4 a few months back. Was experiencing issues with many pop ups when starting the truck, having to go through all the prompts when connecting my phone to CarPlay, and my bluetooth carplay adapter stopped being recognized. Saw that I need to update my SYNC to the newest update via USB since it wasn’t auto updating over WiFi.

Used the CyanLabs update installer to download onto a 64GB USB drive. When I install into my truck, I get this error message ‘instl_err12’. Anyone know what that’s about?

I’ve read other posts saying this is the error message you get from a failed APIM and I’m really hoping that’s not the case… If it is, guess I’ll deal with these pop ups for the rest of my truck’s lifespan lol

I thought maybe I needed to take the files out of the SyncMyRide folder but now that gives me a new error ‘LST_ERR05’

This is your issue, I’m quite sure your rwdata partition is full based on what you are describing.

You need to follow this tutorial: APIM Sync Settings Not Saving, VER_ERR08 Errors, Cannot Perform Master Reset or Upgrades/Updates (Solved)

Please note that if the rwdata partition cleaner does not work for you, you need to perform the other “legacy” methods until enough room is made for the upgrade to succeed.

You can try a master reset before trying the rwdata partition cleaner tool.

Also, please provide the full log in the future, since you left some important information out.

Thanks so much! The rwdata cleaner worked great. First it didn’t work and I got the same inst_err error. I had to first master reset my unit and then that allowed me to run the cleaner. Took like 10 seconds I think to finish up with it. Then I plugged in my 64 gb flash drive with the sync update on it and it went through the entire update. Now I don’t get those annoying pop ups anymore and my Bluetooth sync device works again!
