F150 2018 update issue from 4" to 8" screen

I purchased 2018 f150 XLT, and i wasn’t able to see the climate control on the touch screen i thought its a update issue, i updated through ford website with the truck vin number with usb.
After the update i don’t have touch screen anymore and got small screen on the left top corner.
I think the previous owner change the screen from 4” to 8” and the truck got the 4” version.
Need help to install the sync 3.
Thank you.

SYNC Region: NA

Navigation Variant: Nav

Manufacturer Year: Pre MY20

Install Type: Unknown

Old SYNC Version: 2.3

New SYNC Version: 2.3

Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
No

Update Method: Official Ford

You need to install a 8" package, Syn3 Updater can help with that or you can manually download and prepare a autoinstall.lst for your desired 3.4 8" version

I just follow the process you sent and install it into the usb?
Do i need forscan to install it into the truck ?

You won’t need Forscan, but disable auto updates, and can’t use Ford’s update system anymore.

What’s your target build?, you will need to manually create the USB since you are not running 3.4, but 2.x / 3.0…

Do you have the autoinstall.lst file used for upgrading?, share it please.

To be honest i never install something like this before.
I don’t have any auto install how is that works?

Check the USB or whatever file Ford sent your way, it should be a .zip, right?, inside there’s a file called autoinstall.lst… send that…

autoinstall.lst (209 Bytes)

this is the file you are asking for?
or need syncmyride too ?

That’s ok, and please do not double post, use the edit button instead if you want to add or correct information.

We do not have that build in our sw db, but it’s some kind of 2.2… You could go straight to the latest 3.0, what do you say?.

no problem I do whatever you say I just don’t like this small screen.
but please can you explain everything step by step.
I really appreciate your help.
i forgot to say 3 days ago i visited ford dealer and they told me APIM need to change it will coast around 2000 cad.

Of course they did, that’s their business.
Since the screen was upgraded from 4 to 8, Ford still thinks the screen is the OEM one, so they will send 4 inch software to it. That’s why you can’t use Ford’s upgrades anymore.

I will not silver plate it for you, but you will get the idea.

Sync3 installs updates by reading the autoinstall.lst file on the USB’s root. The packages referenced by the autoinstall.lst file must be located inside the SyncMyRide folder…
You will need 4 files: HN1T-14G381-SA (and the autoinstall.lst for it) and JR3T-14G381-AY (and it’s autoinstall.lst).

So, carefully read this post → 2016 Mustang Sync3 1.0 updated to 3.0 and no Apple Carplay! - #10 by SaNdMaN

That’s the process you need to follow with the packages I mentioned before (the referenced post is old so use the -AY package instead of the -AX). Those packages are for 8 inch screens.

The idea is to install the intermediate version 2.2.17011 which is the one that activates Car Play / Android Auto… This will fix your issue, since it’s for 8 inches… But since you are upgrading, go to the latest 3.0.23219 by installing the other package.

Just making sure autoinstall.lst(1) is correct?

Since you can’t have 2 files with the same name, you will have to perform one install, then rename the files to install the other package.

I thought telling you that Sync3 upgrades by reading the autoinstall.lst file was enough. I didn’t say “autoinstall.lst(1)” nor “any file starting with autoinstall*”…

sorry my friend but I’m having hard time to understand because I never did something like this before.
you mean i need to delete autoinstall ?
because in the instruction said place 4 files in one place ?

do you want to connect to my computer to install it for me ?

Do not take this the wrong way, but you are just failing to follow very simple guidelines.
I’ve already asked you not to double post, yet you keep doing it…
And I never told you to have the 4 files at the same place…

Time for you to take a deep breath, to read and to think… I won’t control your computer…
Follow the instructions on the post I’ve mentioned before as guide, that’s your step by step.
