Ford 4" to 8" sync 3 update, google maps and apple maps no sound when annoucing

2018 Ford F150 xlt. Went from 4" to 8" upgrade myself ( first time ). I did NOT use an aftermarket harness. I installed a ford deal dual usb port and tapped power from the 12 volt port on dash and bought just a new usb cable for the port. Everything works, kinda gives me issues with car play, sometimes works, sometimes dont.. I changed to a known working usb cable for my phone, that worked with Maps annoucing in that car. Still wont work. I updated with synupdater to Sync 3.4.23188, maps 2.21…
I tried deleting navigation off the Ford APIM, still had the same issue. Put navigation back on, and updated maps to 2.21… same issue..
Is there a setting on ForScan I need to update? I didn’t update any VIN to APIM or anything.

You used the existing USB cable for the Sync 3 4" unit to the hub? And purchased a compatible CP hub? It should have no lettering on the faceplate.

Did you turn up the volume while the prompts were playing?

Usually the power to the USB hub comes from the APIM.

Yes, I bought the correct usb hub, brand new usb cable, and tapped power from the cigarette lighter port…. I tried the volumn while it was announcing, also tried the volumn through the maps app, it says turn volumn up via stereo and it basically freezes….

Is the lighter plug on only with ignition? Or hot at all times. Unless you programmed the timeout for the plug it will not stay on unless the ignition is turned on.

When you say a new USB cable, is this the cable from the hub to the APIM? You should have repurposed the OEM cable.

Yes, hub to apim, lighter is timed out 5 mins after ignition off, ish,

So to be clear, the issue is that with CP the navigation is not annoucing the carplay maps turn by turn directions and the like?
With the phone unplugged and not running CP, does the navigation prompts work? Are they turned on in the NAV settings on the APIM?

The link didn’t work, but that is a power adapter only. You said you got power from the lighter?

Yes to all. My exact phone and lightning cable is used in my work car with CarPlay works great. Just announcing turn by turn does not work. Without CarPlay, it works. Is there a setting on forscan I need to change?

If it works with onboard NAV then there is nothing wrong with Sync. This would be an issue with the Bluetooth pairing or permissions.

I haven’t tried the onboard navigation yet, I will report back, I am out of town working u til Sunday… thank you for the help.
