Ford Edge EU / NAV update from 3.0.2010 to 3.4.22110 "BLANK" APIM AsBuilt and "Unknown" APIM Model

Glad to meet you!

After extensively (re)reading the options / information / warnings etc during last few days, today I finished a mainly successful update of my 2017 Ford Edge Titanium (EU / Nav / APIM
HB5T-14G371-FCA / 64 GB) from 3.0.20210 to 3.4.22110 (EU / NAV, F11 maps).

I am the only owner of the car, bought it new, and - AFAIK - there was no APIM replacement during it’s life (approx. 180k km / 110k miles).

Did an interrogator job BEFORE update (AA option, set by Syn3 Updater based on supplied info), then reformat update, with MY20 on auto, update went smooth, took about 47 minutes.

Master reset after, checked basic functionality, mainly in good order (some minors below).

Interrogator job AFTER the update (AD option, set also by Syn3 Updater), reverted with already known issue of “blank” AsBuilt data and “unknown” (or else) Hardware APIM model (at least for updates from 3.0 - I think it’s still somehow related to older APIM hardware (H series, and not J or K).

Did another interrogator job by AA (said software not ok or something - did not catch it too good), and then with AB and AC, by manually downloading and modifying USB content (and lst file).

(I have to mention that I am pretty experienced in IT and part of engineering, being my daily job(s) for about 25 years, so I understand the idea(s) behind the work.

AB interrogator stopped with PKG_ERR04 (I … think, as I did everything in the car, on the side of the street, with pretty quick changes of the files, and I did not catch the exact timing with errors, but I saved the relevant files.)

AC interrogator did the job, but, unfortunately, with pretty much the same results as the “normal” AD package: blank AsBuilt and Unknown APIM.

In fact, I ran again the AD interrogator, and it just gave me a smaller file than the initial AD, and one almost identical with the previous AC output (except timestamps).

What’s interesting is that some part of the Partition information section is only present on the initial “after-update” AD interrogator, and missing from subsequent AC and also AD outputs (italic section is only present in first AD output).

Android Auto: OK quick connect, no issues seen

Not so good:

(some of them are just unfamiliar / maybe uninspired interface changes from 3.0, others are yet not discovered )

topic main subject: blank AsBuilt and unknown APIM hardware model (I don’t know how bad is this, but I suppose that is mainly a query issue - I will make time and put a Forscan on it at the end of the week, I hope
rear camera, although has the “delayed” checked, closes immediately after exit from reverse
Home and Work icons in Sync Nav are on a secondary page (?! ), and missing the estimations from 3.0 directly on buttons.
there is no “mute” for NAV Voice prompts (it can be done in the map window, I know, but not in the menu, and I am still not sure if it lasts).
Brightness menu is disabled in Display options (at least during daytime) - will see how it will progress.
missing US English voice package

Will keep you posted during next days, and will also revert with Forscan readings.

If you have any idea of how to get rid of the subject issues (or the other “minors” in not so good section above), please share.

Unsure why this happens, we have been imvestigating…

This could be a regional thing (laws) or asbuilt setting, or even lack of ability of the camera.
Home and Work icons in Sync Nav are on a secondary page and missing the estimations from 3.0 directly on buttons.

there is no “mute” for NAV Voice prompts
There is a NAV sub-menu for turning off the voice prompts for nav, or limiting the dialogue.
Brightness menu is disabled in Display options (at least during daytime)
Brightness is controlled thru the vehicle illumination in Sync 3.4 for daytime. Nighttime can still be adjusted.
missing US English voice package
The installed voice package is 5U5T-14G391-AS. Does not include ENU.

As it is still early, I’ll revert during next days with experience updates, if any. For now, everything seems right.

Small mention: After setting everything up (including this one) phone ringtone switched by itself from “Use phone ringtone” to “Ringtone no. 1” (or similar), which is causing the already known issue with call audio in AA (AA powered by S22U in my case).

I had this, from time to time (SYNC updates, mainly) also with 3.0, but this time happened real quick (next day). And the main difference from 3.0 is that, under 3.4, you can no longer access SYNC Phone Settings while in AA.

Same happening during last more than a year to a good friend of mine, owning a MY2019 Ford Focus, Sync 3.2 (officially updated to 3.4, I think)

Good addition: Can search for location / destination in Waze under AA also while driving, which in 3.0 was blocked at more than 5 - 7 kph, I think.

Short update / comments to previous:

blank AsBuilt: noted, waiting for updates from Cyanlabs side. As I said, I understand it’s just a matter of software parsing / data gathering, and NOT a question of missing something on the car side, so this should not affect functionality / future updates. If I can help in any way, please let me know (I have some knowledge about Forscan, I have an ODBLink Ex, so …
rear camera: solved, it’s working as it should, delaying exit when moving to null or drive. So no issue.
Home and Work icons: that’s it. Will live with it, no big hassle.
NAV mute: I managed to mute it from map view directly, it will not come back, so also this one is solved.
- Brightness: Your statement is, of course right. As user experience, brightness is OK, I think it’s a little better now than with 3.0. No flickering detected until now.
Voice language: I am OK with any of the EN versions, just my accent is probably more NA than UK. I am not using it so extensive, so will keep it as it is, “default setup”.

While, before updating, I could check the database for similar experiences with Eu Edges, and found not so many in my shoes (yeah, EU Edge is a little awkward, even EU localized cars, like mine, are - in fact - NA car with (part) EU software, is there any chance that I could add the positive experience to the database, in order to be of help? Or you are doing this, based on topics / users’ confirmations?
