Does anyone have any insight that could possible help?
I’m very close. I installed a used Fordpass modem, part number JB5T-14G229-AG that came from a 2018 Explorer, into my 2016 Explorer. First, history. I have completed a Sync 2 to Sync 3 conversion and all is working well on Sync 3.4.
Important factors. I wired the modem up on the HS3 network using the HS3 canbus wires going to the apim since I do not have a factory DSP on my XLT model. Using forscan, i can NOT see the TCU, even after deleting all vehicle profiles, but it is on the the network and working because the APIM can see it. I am able to complete the Fordpass activation on the APIM and I can see TPMS, vehicle location and honk the horn. I am missing the lock, unlock and remote start functions in the app.
The 2016 Explorer was kind of a weird in between year since it had Sync 2, but it is GCEA 1.3.
I was able to load a profile from my 23 Transit and then could see the TCU in the explorer to check as built data and go through the long activation process. All works except the remote start, the lock and unlock (the most important features).
I got a few DTC’s which I think are relevant from the TCU. They are U0100:00-48 Lost communication with ECM/PCM and U0140:00-48Lost Communication with Body Control module.
This leads me to believe that the reason I do not have controls for these features is because the TCU isnt seeing and / or communicating with other modules it needs. I know other people have got TCU’s installed in 2016 Explorers and Ive followed all guides that I could find everywhere.
I have updated GWM firmware just to see if that would help and the as built already matched the 2018 Explorer that I got the TCU from.
Again, I can control the hotspot function from the Sync 3 APIM and can see vehicle data on Fordpass app. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
