frozen sync radio firmware or hardware issue?

2016 ford transit connect non nav radio is completely frozen even if i disconnect battery or pull a fuse and all it displays is temp time and date which shows 2015, this leaves me to think it must have never been updated and maybe that has caused it to brick. i cannot get it to update do to it being frozen and my local dealer is asking for 350 just to diag. if anyone has dealt with this or understand what issue im dealing with id really appreciate it.

Based on your comment, 350 is really close to a replacement APIM.
Get forscan and an adapter, check the APIM model and get an equivalent one.
If the unit does not even change time, it’s a functioning brick…
