"G" APIM Flash Rescue 2016 Ford FLEX

Updated original Sync 3 using Sync3 Updater from 1.0 to 2.2 and all was well using OBDlinkEX. Then I tried updating 2.2 to 3.0 via Ford Sync site & USB and after install complete message, the screen went blank and hasn’t returned.

I have FORScan paid license and read through this guide APIM Firmware Flash Rescue

Any chance I can flash rescue? Looking for the following calibration files

Strat: GB5T-14G374-CA.VBF (GB5T-14G374-CB.VBF or GB5T-14G374-CD.VBF)
Cal: GB5T-14G375-DA.VBF

My current files read

Strat: GB5T-14G374-AF.VBF
Cal: GB5T-14G375-CA.VBF

Thanks in advance!

SYNC Region: NA

Navigation Variant: Nav

Manufacturer Year: Pre MY20

Install Type: OEM

Old SYNC Version: 1.0.15139

New SYNC Version: 2.2.17011

Do you have a error message, if so what is it?

Update Method: Official Ford

The calibration/firmware of the APIM has nothing to do with the Sync version being installed so I’m not sure why you’re talking about flashing the APIM.
Sync3 is an app on the APIM and you don’t use ForScan to update it.
We need a bit more of step by step info to understand where you’re at and what you’ve done along the way to get there.

I’m talking about flashing the APIM to “rescue” it from the black screen after update (bricked?), but this isn’t a 2020 module.

I did not use FORScan to update either, just mentioning it for the flashing or whatever it’s called of the calibration/strategy files.

Read other posts where they were essentially at the same point and flashing the strat/calib files reverted/fixed their issues.

There are no error codes/DTCs when using FORScan so the module is still online I think because many of the soft, hard, and master resets do nothing to to turn it on.

You can’t use Forscan to fix a blown Sync3 upgrade, that takes bench work with a rig.

If this were a PC, the calibration/firmware/strategy would be the BIOS while Sync3 would be like the Windows GUI running on top of Windows Core.
The OS on the APIM is Blackberry QNX auto.

Ok, so according to you what are my options?

Get a new or used APIM module and program it as built? Take it to the dealer?

Is the unit operational ?
What’s the APIM model ?

With this being a G or early H series NAV APIM I’d be inclined to pick up a used one from a yard and drop the factory AsBuilt into it before I’d head to a dealer.
Sync3 NAV APIM out of a dealer lists for $800.

I believe it’s operational because it doesn’t throw any codes and FORScan can see it with no DTCs. The as built data looks fine too. The only thing is the black screen and at night I can notice that the back light comes on, but no image and I can’t turn off the radio with the power button - only lower the volume via the steering wheel buttons.

That’s not the APIM model, but the assembly one. You can read it through Forscan, but no need, really.

You can try installing some 2.2.17xxx build to see if that changes anything.

The APIM was always operational and it was only until I decided to try to update it, my fault, did I encounter this situation. The last configuration I could see on the display before I did the update via the Ford sync site was

“SYNC 3, Software Version 2.2 Build 17011_PRODUCT”

When I tried going to the version 3.0 Build 23219 (which was the only one offered by the Ford site) via USB, upon completion I restarted the car and that is when the screen went black.

Ford Model: GB5T-14G371-CF

How do I install it if I can’t see anything on the display? I believe tried doing this with a USB and nothing shows up nor does anything happen.

If I were to pick up a used module as warlock suggets, is the model number the only one I should try to match or that and the assembly? Do I need to get a G APIM or can I try to go for something higher/better? Thanks

If the unit is operational (besides the black screen) it may be able to be upgraded.
Do you see the splash screen when it starts?.
Try running an interrogator log against it, share the XML file with us if it succeeds.

There is no splash screen/logo when it starts. In the evening I can tell it turns “on” because the backlight illuminates it, but it’s still a black image.

Created and ran the interrogator log, but when I reconnect it to my comp to open it - nothing shows, no xml file.

If I were able to obtain those two strat/calib files wouldn’t I be able to rescue according to that guide? I’ve read through many posts were people were able to revive it by flashing those files, of course the files themselves aren’t easily found.
