I have a 2017 ford fusion energi. I have added a h series tcu to it that was previously working in my 2017 ford fusion energi. That car was totaled so I wanted to transfer the part to the new car. I got it installed in the 2017 and the go times are working like they should but the app won’t give me the option to activate the features. When I added it to the 2014 it was pretty instant asking to activate them. The 2017 still acts likes it doesn’t have one. I have tried setting it back to factory mode and them setting the correct as built for the car and it’s currently in waiting for Auth mode but I’m not seeing the option to actually authorize it in the app. Do I need to contact ford about this or is there something else I can do. I have tried a master reset and the apim is seeing the serial number.
Did you follow F150 Chiefs activation guide and do your have a Ford PIFA antenna installed?

Yes. I followed his guide and did the reset after it was installed. I just did it again to be sure and it hasn’t changed in the app. I also signed out again. I am attaching the part numbers as well. I do have the pifa antenna although it’s not the one I was using in the other car. I was using a cheap ebay replacement in that one. This one I found in a 2020 fusion at the junkyard. The pods say it has service and it did go through the factory mode, unprovisioned, connection to home url, and then the waiting for auth mode it’s currently in.
If you’ve got signal the next question is where is the vehicle located (eg US, CA, etc) and what country was the donor vehicle built for.
If I remember correctly the H series were region specific in that there IMEI would only activate in certain countries?
I am in the US and it was built for the US. It was working in the 2014 I had. Just isn’t in the 2017 I just got when I transferred it to the new car.
The wires are vehicle specific so I do not know where you’d find the can bus wires in your vehicle. If it didn’t have a tcu already it is unlikely to have the wiring already so you’ll have to add it. I have gotten it working in the 2014 as stated above but not the 2017 yet but it’s in ford backend I believe and I have to call them to help with that and haven’t had time to yet.
Actually the TCU can go anywhere, the PIFA antenna location is what matters, that goes on the package shelf, from the factory the 2017-2018 TCU is on the back shelf, the 2019-2020 moves it inside the right rear quarter panel. They all mount the PIFA on the rear shelf, if you only use 1 antenna with a J series you’ll see an open DTC on the TCU but it will still work (contrary to internet wisdom, the cream/tan connector is for the secondary PIFA).

For the AsBuilt with a J series on a 2018 Fusion Hybrid (not an Energi) you need to use the AsBuilt from a 2019 Fusion Hybrid and be on at least -CM firmware in the TCU, you also need to modify the AsBuilt in the APIM to tell it you have a TCU
You can’t do firmware with ForScan any longer, they withdrew license support for 2.4.x after they got tired of people bricking modules and blaming ForScan rather than the fact that they were using a product at their own risk.
You wouldn’t have anything on the shelf with the SE, that pic just shows the antenna placement point, personally I’d put the TCU in the trunk where its easier to get to.
Keep in mind you only want to change the TCU related blocks in the APIM, if you use the whole AB you’ll lose camera and right steering wheel switch pack functionality.

That DTC is going to show on a J series if you don’t have a PIFA antenna plugged into both the purple and the tan ports on the TCU, you can run with just 1 antenna I’ve be doing it on my Fusion Hybrid Platinum ever since I pulled the H and went to a J.
I have an update. It seems the TCU is not complaining about the as built data. I copied it from a 2017 hybrid Platinum and just changed the engine from 3 for hybrid to 8 for plug in hybrid. Does anything look wrong here that I’m not seeing?

Any Ford with CEGA 1.2 or greater that has a TCU will show it is a connected vehicle. This applies to retrofits.
It does not mean the features will work in Ford Pass or that data is being shared. There are many other things that need to be in play for these to work.

There are settings in Fords backend servers for the VIN’s that we have no control over. I put a TCU in my 2018 Edge and it did not come with one. I have full functionality with it but that is usually the case with a CEGA 1.3 vehicle.
You need the specific H TCU AB Bill has for an Energi in order for all of the PHEV functions to show in the FordPass/FordApp.
The TCU won’t complain about a “bad” AB, you’ll just have functions that don’t work from the APP.
When I pulled my H series out on my 2018 Fusion HEV and put a J in I had issues with it not responding on the APP until I used the AB from a 2019 Fusion HEV so its more than changing the powertrain type. Part of the AB values are platform specific (eg Fusions vs Escape, HEV vs non-HEV of the same model), so for example a non-HEV AB will never send a high voltage battery alert if the TCU is plugged in a HEV because it doesn’t understand the code being thrown.
So using the AB from a HEV with an H TCU will result in you seeing the charging functions of the PHEV not work correctly.
You should not be seeing tire pressures with an H series TCU?
That’s something normally seen in J series or higher.
I have never said it’s H series nor confused on what I’m putting in my car. Maybe you’re confusing my message with OPs. Mine is literally typed JL3T in my post quoted above.
