I am getting no GPS signal after update from 3.3 to 3.4

Have you master reset?
If so, create and post the interrogator log.

I did the master reset just now. I went ahead and plug the USB with the interrogator tool and I got an Error Code: PKG_ERR04.

Since you didn’t perform a master reset before as instructed, give it some time to see if it comes back to life.

About the error about running the interrogator log, revise the Syn3Updater configuration. Interrogator log is version dependant, so make sure the current version matches ebay the car has.

Thank you for the clarification. I change the configuration on sync3updater to the current version and it worked.

This is the interrogation log I got:

Have you performed a master reset?.
If you haven’t done so, do it before moving forward.

Also, it seems you are missing a file.
If you compare what’s on the reformat.lst file and what’s on the unit, 4U5T-14G424-CE is missing, which is the the map license.

In order to install it, try this:

  • for this time only, go into advanced settings in syn3updater and force autoinstall mode.
  • go back to the main screen and configure it to install like before, but in the package selection select only the map license file.
  • that should create an autoinstall.lst file with the license file alone.

I’m not sure if this will work (installing only the license), plan B would be to re-do everything since you can reformat the unit.

Ok, I just reinstalled the map license but still the map does not move. I did another interrogation log and it shows it this time.

If we go with plan B, how should I perform it?

The license you installed it’s not the one I mentioned before.
License is map version dependent.

Either way, I do not believe license would prevent GPS lock.

Lets do this: try installing the correct license file, perform another master reset and drive the car for a while.

I found the correct file. I tried to load it to the car, but I got another error code - SIGN_ERR01.

I think it’s because latest NA maps are locked.
You will need to re do all the process again (reformat).
Make sure to configure Syn3Updater correctly, and do not force any installation method.

Once that’s done, check if all the files are installed this time, and make sure to perform a master reset. Then, drive the car for a while.

Also, is there any background history about the unit?.
“Average” users just do not swap GPS antennas after a “failed” software upgrade.

Do you have your old AB settings saved? Maybe just reload those and see if that solves it.

Even without the GPS antenna it will still use the Speed data and wheel angle for the Nav so you should still have movement.

@Guga21
Notice this is a 2012 Ford Focus NA model? Is this really the vehicle the Sync 3 unit is installed? If so, downgrade back to 3.3.19052 with the associated Sync voice file and GN. You can keep the new maps. NAV will likely work fine.

Understood. Should I select “reformat” on the advance options? Should I use an older version of the maps?

I changed the GPS antenna thinking it was an issue with the antenna not being compatible with the new version (I understand now this is not the case). My APIM is a replacement from the Sync 2 my car had before.

Use autoinstall to downgrade back to 3.3.19052 with the associated Sync voice file and GN. If your vehicle had Sync 2, You should now have a GPS antenna connected directly to the APIM. When you go into the ‘test’ menu in the APIM, it will show the GPS signal strength and number of satellites. If it does, the antenna is working properly. Check this first…

Ok, I downgraded to 3.3.19052 as instructed but the gps is still locked. I went into the test menu and I am not getting any gps signal. I also noticed that with the new installation, I am missing the map license again when I ran the interrogation log. It seems that it is not installing all the files at once.

The interrogator is just not listing the license…

Did you do a complete reformat and master reset?

Can you post the AsBuilt for your APIM also?

Yes, I did the reformat and also a master reset after the installation. I will go over the link in the following days, I have been inundated with a lot of work lately. Here is the APIM AsBuild in case you guys can find something wrong with it.

I dont see anything that looks out of place. Maybe someone else who is more familiar with Focus settings can take a look.

Although there are a few settings enabled in the Sync 3 APIM that were not enabled in the OEM Sync 2 APIM, like PDC, there are no settings that would affect the compass or GPS in error.

The issue is with the acquisition of GPS signal, not the Sync or maps installation. What GPS antenna is connected to the APIM? You can test the antenna in the above procedure…
