Installation Failing

Hello,

I’m trying to update form Sync 3.0 to Sync 3.4 using the Cyanlabs Syn3 updater. I have a 2016 Ford F-150 that I updated to Sync 3 3.0 using a flash drive. I had to do the installation in 2 parts, but got it to work. I replaced the USB module to the version ending in “-be”, but I still couldn’t use Apple Carplay after updating to 3.0, so I’m attempting to update to 3.4.

I have successfully loaded the files onto the flash drive for Sync 3 3.4, however, a few minutes after the update starts I always get the following message:

"Installation Failed

The installation has run out of space or does not work with this version"

I am using a 64 gb flash drive with exFAT formatting. Not installing maps. Looking for any help I can get.

Hello.

Gladly for you, you completely messed up the process, that’s why it’s failing.
I’m saying “gladly” because Car Play should work on 3.0, and we had some cases that upgrading to 3.4 didn’t solve that either.

So, first things first: you need to ensure Car Play works on 3.0.
You need to install 2.2.17011 first, to see if CP is activated. Take this message (and thread) as reference → 2016 Mustang Sync3 1.0 updated to 3.0 and no Apple Carplay! - #10 by SaNdMaN

Once CP works, you can go to 3.4 if you still desire so by simply configuring Syn3updater correctly.

Ford messed things up for some users by skipping that 2.2 version and upgrading them directly to 3.0, but it’s an easy fix.

Okay, I downloaded both tar.gz files and created the autoinstall.lst file, but after the truck says “Detecting Device”, it does not start to update.

One possible issue - even though I saved the file as “autoinstall.lst”, it says it’s a text document.

Are you a mac user?. I won’t be able to assist if so because I’m a Windows users.
Either way, you need to make sure the extension is .lst and not .txt…

This site has been upgraded since I posted that solution a while back, so you can now download the required autoinstall.lst file directly from CyanLabs:
