Is there a way to update navigation maps on 2020 and newer apims yet?

I understand you cannot reformat these, so are we stuck on whatever the maps it came with are, in my case 2-21? or has someone figured out a way to update the maps on the 2020 up apims yet? thanks. i have three cars in the family with 2020 up apims and would love to update the maps.

You have options:

  • Use syn3updater to autoinstall maps if they are not ESN locked.
  • Check if you are elegible for buying upgrades from Ford.
  • Jailbreak the unit and use FMODS’ universal reformat package to bypass the reformat limitation, you could install ESN locked maps that way.

We do not support the 3rd option.

how can i tell if the maps are ESN locked or not? i thought all 2020 up apims had ESN locked hence why the new maps wont take and brick the unit?

With MY20 protection enabled Syn3updater will only give you not ESN locked maps as options for just upgrading maps.

sorry i dont quite understand, my 2020 up apim already came with 2-21 maps from factory, i cannot upgrade using reformat, so how do i update the maps to 2-23? i understand the new maps from the updater are not ESN locked, but my existing ones are, so how do i update the maps? if i cannot reformat, sounds like FMODS is only option. and cannot use Syn3updater at all.

BTW tried interogator tool which creates the XML file, when checkign for 2020 up model year apim, but then updater it cant read the XML file when i bring it back to computer. i know my apim is 2020up as it was manufactured in 2023, but came with 2-21 maps still. im just trying to update the maps. thx.

Your model came with the 2.21 maps as you indicate but future maps were ESN locked for 2020 + models as explained to you as Ford probably woke up that some were updating them free through Cyanlabs instead of buying them.

That us why Syn3updater only shows the earlier maps as the latest available when you have MY20 protection enabled as you suggest.
Earlier Ford models to 2020 can still update the latest maps through Syn3updater.

To my knowledge you can either buy the later 2.23 maps from Ford or go down a Jailbreak, FMods or whatever track to upload them which I know little about but others here do.
