Issues after upgrading to 3.4

Hi Everyone,

I upgraded to Sync 3.4 in my Ford Ranger. It went really well, however I am getting some errors in ForScan which I wonder could they be related?

The two faults logged are.
U0155 - Lost Communication With Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Control Module
U2101 - Control Module Configuration Incompatible.

I have cleared the errors and also performed a reset of the APIM with no change. There doesnt seem to be a problem except I’m also experiencing significant battery drain over night and trying to confirm/eliminate the possibility its these fault codes.

If the DTC U2101 - Control Module Configuration Incompatible is present in the APIM, reload your entire factory APIM asbuilt and then perform another Master Reset once it reboots. You can find your factory asbuilt file at Index - FordServiceInfo.Com (motorcraftservice.com)

Also, check that the screen is shutting off completely on the APIM. When it is very dark outside check the screen for a very dim backlight. If you see a dim light when it is shut down, you can change the Illumination Strategy to maybe fix it. This issue is not uncommon on EU and other vehicles that have been upgraded from Sync 3.0 to 3.2+ (3.4, etc.).

Just spent the last 3 hours, following your advice plus trying other things and still cant clear those fault codes.

Its 9:30pm here so I gave up for the night but I thought I’d just stand there and watch what stays illuminated after locking the car. I observed the gear selector LED “P” still lit, as well as the central locking buttons on the door still lit up as well.

Just to add further context, I have aftermarket LED bulbs for low beam (with a canbus controller in sequence). I removed them and the faults remained. In the morning I will remove the throttle controller and see if that does anything.

I’ve managed to clear U0155 - Lost Communication With Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Control Module by setting most settings in the APIM to disabled. So I guess there’s one setting in there that it does not like.

You could find a similarly equipped 2018 or 2019 Ranger for sale with Sync 3 and get the VIN. Then look up the asbuilt for that vehicle at Index - FordServiceInfo.Com (motorcraftservice.com) using the VIN. You could use that asbuilt to verify your settings.
