Hi, recently i’ve updated my system to version 3.4.21020 without any issues with the official update from ford site, but when i tried to update the 22Gb maps it failed and i’m sure it was my fault because i couldn’t wait any longer and i pull the plug after 2 hours updating, after that i tried to update again but the error “MEM_ERR01”, i then run the interrogator program and updated ford site, and now instead of the 22Gb update i only have an update of size 9Gb, so it installed something, but even with this smaller update i get the same error message. All of this was done with the official updates.
After this i when to a dealer and the car stayed there overnight, now they are saying that it needs to replace the APIM.
So my question is, do i have any other option than this? My APIM is working correctly and i have 18Gb of space left, i think, i’m new to all this so that’s why i’m asking for your help here!
btw: my system is MY20 bought in 2020 and it’s an EU with nav.
As far as I know (don’t quote me on this one), you cannot delete stuff from the APIM.
Not sure if they are going to charge you for changing the APIM or not.
If they are, what I would try is to install just maps via Syn3updater.
Since it’s a MY20 unit, reformat is out of the question (this would solve the issue since it’s a clean install), but since EU maps are not locked, these can be installed with auto-install via Syn3updater.
I would try that to see how it goes, you have nothing to loose.
I’ve managed to do the update with update maps only, it took 3+ hours to complete, after that i uploaded the interrogator file to ford servers and strangely it showed that i had an map update of 522Mb, but when i tried to download the file the site hangs. Also i tried to do the update via the wifi of the car and it hangs also. After a few hours i took the car out and realised that it was updating something thru the wifi connection and it update the map file BJH, it’s a ~ 20Mb file. After a while i checked the ford site and it says that both the system and maps are updated.
I think all this situation a bit strange, do you think that’s all ok now or there’s something wrong with this APIM?
I’m a bit reluctant to swap APIM’s because it requires disassembly of part of the dashboard, and by experience it will never be the same
The APIM is working like it should be, i can’t find any problems with it, i can’t tell the same for future update obviously!
Unless the dealer gives you the warranty crap like always. I’ll bet you that they will tell me that i have to swap the APIM or i will loose the warranty!
From the description it looks like the APIM is fine once it sync’d with the Ford servers. Many folks have had issues with the Ford packaged updates and updates via wifi, you are not alone. It just takes time for the APIM to talk to the servers and figure things out, since it is a big 10Mb connection. As far as warranty, I wouldn’t worry about it. The APIM and servers agree, the dealer would not know anything more than that.
