Ok. Thanks.
You wouldnāt be trying to park with the engine off would you?
So sorry if this is slightly off topic - currently with asbuilt coding I would usually try using the databases here but as my car is a pre-facelift MK3 Focus, quite a lot of the asbuilt databases donāt cover the modules in my car.
This issue is obviously solved now, but I start to wonder what other niggles could be fixed with more in depth understanding of the asbuilt data - but how do people work out what coding does what? Iād love to know what Iāve changed by changing the coding and what else is changeable. Is it literally just a case of incrementally changing the coding and seeing what changes? That canāt be right, surely.
I donāt think we have those specific options but AsBuilt Databases - CyanLabs 's are something
After I saved all module AsBuilt data, I also use FOCCCUS as it is compatible with the earlier vehicles. That interface is only drop down boxes with no AsBuilt at all but allows certain changes to be made. I turned on auto lock by speed, tweaked a few settings recommended when you do the Sync 3 upgrade etc. only issue is it throws so many codes but then I use ForScan to clear the codes.
That combination has proven successful for me but obviously there isnāt a section for dynamic lines in FOCCCUS.
I did a bit more research. I programmed the 19c8 line into a Focus that is equipped with the MFD5, to see how it would react.
With the 51C8 you can turn the PDC and Lines on and off.
With the 19C8 the lines are always on and cannot be turned off.
That tells me that the Line 7B1-03-01 in the IPMB should handel the communication between the different display types.
I think the IPMB took the setting of the Display installed before, but switched them off after a while of no communication due to the new SYNC3 display.
By entering different VINĀ“s into the Motorcraftservice AsBuilt, I found different programming for the IPMB 7B1-03-01 line.
MFD4 and MFD5 have 51C8 D5
Display in Rearviewmirror has 50C8 D5
DM4 has 19C8 9D
DM8 has 59C8 DD
DM4 is the US Version of MFD4
DM8 is MyFordTouch, SYNC2,SYNC3
I changed it to 59C8 DD but I don`t see any difference to the 19C8 9D.
The 50C8 D5 has only static and no dynamic lines.
@Rollback_Jockey Not really, but the PAM and so the PDC Sounds still work with the Ignition.
Wow. Great info. I also had the ability to turn PDC - Lines on and off when I had the original sync. They were on when I disconnected the old unit for the upgrade to sync 3 so I agree wholeheartedly that the settings were retained until the car went looking for the module after X amount of time / distance.
The problem I found with motorcraft AsBuilt data was every time I entered a similar vehicle (Titanium TDCi) for some reason there is basically nothing, only about 10 lines. Hindsight I should have looked for petrol Titanium trim and looked at the AsBuilt for those.
Edit. Looked at 4 different Titanium AsBuilts and they all had the same as mine when it didnāt work.
Either way, now that I have the correct code Iāll know what to change if that module ever resets again.
Only thing left to solve is the park assist text that moves across to the left side of the screen during the reversing phase of auto parking. No big deal but would like to work it out.
I commented on a previous CyanLabs post (. Enabling Park Assist in Sync 3 (For those that have done a Sync 2 > Sync 3 Upgrade) - #81 by angelrenedo ) about enabling park assist after a retrofit and sourced this image.
Yep, I also have this. It was fine in earlier versions of Sync 3.4, I canāt remember what version it was where it changed.
This and the backlight flicker when adjusting brightness are the only two issues that remain for me - oh - and the IPC display being bright white instead of showing a Ford logo.
Never noticed what my display doesā¦ā¦ I know it changed to a darker tint after the swap but canāt remember what it did before . It works so it doesnāt bother me. Iāll have to pay attention next time.
Edit. Just looked, it stays blue/white gradient until start up
I donāt use auto park enough to try and dig through older versions of 3.4. I was hoping it would be a tweak somewhere being that it looks like a scaling issue from 4 inch to 8 inch screen.
Yeah, thatās exactly it - glad it seems to be a genuine side effect. I assume itās that the Sync 3 APIM/software doesnāt contain the logo assets for the pre-facelift IPC. If you switch back the central display type in the cars central config, you get the little ford logo and the floating blocks back. I was tempted to try to update the cluster firmware but then that introduces a slew of other issues with parking sensor beeps etc so never bothered.
Exactly. I would love the digital speedo etc but donāt want to lose the beeps and assisted park.
Iām happy that itās all working now.
