MY20 Bricked APIM Options

Hi
I used the manual usb method cause I was on a Mac when trying to update Sync 3.4 and I bricked my apim. (Maybe the screen as well)
What are my options to fix this?

I have no audio or controls. No usb port power.
8” screen ford transit 2022. I cannot get xml log as the screen is dead.
Thanks for any help.

Hello.

Assuming you reformatted a MY20 unit, the APIM is dead/bricked (the screen is fine).

These are your options:

  1. Replace the unit (just the APIM, the screen is fine)
  2. Try reviving it with this tool → GitHub - bigunclemax/sync3flash: Ford Sync 3 reformat flash tool (requires knowledge and equipment)
  3. Have someone else fix it. Since you are NA based, you could reach Naviupgrade, who provides such service.

Thanks for the quick response!

  1. Any special requirements for buying another apim?
  2. Just naviupgrade.com ?

Yes, that’s the one, he is also a forum member ( @NaviUpgrade ).

About the APIM to get, that’s a good question. Since your unit is MY20, both your current APIM and screen are MY20.

As far as I know, you may have issues using the reformat tool leaked by Ford on MY20 hardware, which includes the screen (it lacks proper drivers). So I would not risk it.

So, under that assumption, you could get any latest APIM, even MY20… L and N (and later) series are MY20…

Once you get your APIM’s model, you can look into replacing it with a similar one… If your car has nav, you will need a 32gb one…

How did you work out that was an upgrade? Did you read anything before commiting?

Is there a way to tell if the screen died?

Yep, connecting it to a working APIM. It will be fine.
