New MyFord Touch to Sync 3 Install

Hey Everyone,

Brand new here and been reading over the forms a bit. Just purchased a Sync 3 kit from eBay and wanted to make sure I am good before trying to update the unit. It’s on version 3.4.21020. Looking to get it to the latest. It shows a build date of 06/12/2020 and model is 3U5T-14G371-DEE. Assembled in China. I see a bunch of comments about MY20+ and how it changes updating so concerned about the build date before I upgrade anything. Thanks!

Hello.

Take a photo of the sticker on its back and share it with us.
That model number is not known to our DB, and since it says it was made in China, this may be a red flag.
Anyways, keep MY20 protection active.
If it’s MY20 you can’t reformat it, that’s about it.

Thanks.

Well… If I have to judge that APIM based on the sticker, I would say it’s not OEM / original… It may or may not be, but based on the sticker, I have my doubts.

Also, the APIM model listed there is not know to our SYNC 3 APIM Hardware Database - CyanLabs , so you are the first one to come by that model (if genuine, of course)…

Where did you source it from?.

Since I purchased from a Chinese seller on eBay, I have my doubts too. I would be surprised if I was the first with this model so I agree with you.

Anything else I should look for to confirm it being a knockoff? Maybe updating isn’t in the cards for me for this unit.

Well… the flag is getting redder…

The DB has about 5000 models listed… So yeah…

There are a few giveaways externally, the sticker seems “off”…
But the main issue I have with it is the model number…
Another thing you could try is reading the APIM’s model with Forscan or through the interrogator log once the unit is installed… that will tell you which model it’s…

Are you still able to return it and ask for a refund?.
Since you are NA based you could source it locally, like from https://naviupgrade.com/ (he is a forum member as well, so you can’t go wrong). Of course, a genuine part will cost more than an imitation, but that’s up to you.

Maybe, maybe not… if the unit is not original it’s hard to say how it will react…
It should be safe to try autoinstalling stuff, I would not reformat it though…

The general recommendation is to avoid units from China.

I appreciate all the help you are giving me. Just ran the Interrogator tool and found some interesting information. APIM is different than the sticker listed.

Well, that makes sense… It’s a HP5T-14G371-CCA APIM with a fake sticker on its back.
HP5T-14G371-CCA is documented in our DB, and it’s not MY20.

It’s running current versions so upgrading should not be a top priority for you, maybe in the future.

Now, are you safe if you decide to reformat it in the future?, it’s hard to say.
Based on the APIM’s model I would say YES, but since the unit has been tampered with (at least the sticker was forged), I cannot assure that…

Also, I think you provided the seller your VIN for APIM programming… If so, one thing you need to do is once the unit is operational and everything is ok, you need to save the whole asbuilt from the APIM as backup…

This is where things get interesting with units out of China.
3U5T would be the base part number for a Focus and all of the salvage yard units on eBay show the later style metal case with a single USB port.

HP5T is the base part number for an 2017/2018 MKZ which would have the dual USB ports.

Understood about reformatting. I did provide them my VIN so I will get a backup done today. I have an issue with the Heated/Cooled seats not showing up on the home screen which they were going to help me program. I was reading that the Powerflow app for hybrid may need to be removed which is fine with me.

I didn’t realize I had the current since I want from what the listing said. Looks like I am good on that as you said. Thanks!

The heated/cooled is normal, Ford never put them on the screen.
The Hybrid/PHEV has to have both the vehicle type changed and the model changed as the Powerflow app reserves 2 positions on the screen.

Here’s a copy of the one from my 2014 SE Hybrid.

This is great. I haven’t used Forscan yet so need to learn what to do with these codes first which I am looking in to. Would you mind sending me a picture of what your home screen and Powerflow app look like so I have a better idea what to expect?

It seems they have issues with labeling things correctly… :upside_down_face:

(pun intended)

If you download the file I uploaded and remove the .txt from the name you should be able to do a straight import and load using ForScan (not sure why the upload appended .txt to the ForScan file).

Do you have an SE or a Ti?
If you have a Ti you would need to change the stereo bit to Sony if you use the uploaded file

The powerflow app will be on the under the app screen, basically all it does it show you a pic of the car (based on the model in the AB) and if the power is coming from the HV Battery or the engine. If you want your seats to show on the screen you lose this app. To me it’s pretty but more or less not needed

I don’t have my SE any longer, here is a pic of the screen from my 2018 Platinum Hybrid with the powerflow removed, heated/cooled seats and heated steering wheel.

I have a Titanium with Sony stereo. That picture is exactly what I want. Just don’t have the heated steering wheel.

I read about losing that app which I don’t mind either. It was fun the first time getting the car but never touched it since. Thanks for all the quick info.

Both of you have been so helpful. Is there a page with all the codes I need to remove that app and add in what you sent me for a Sony stereo?

From my AB if you import that you would change 7D0-01-01 2xxx-xxxx-xx to Axxx-xxxx-xx going from the SE 6 speaker to the Sony.

Remove the Hybrid/Energi powerflow

7D0-01-02 0xxx-xxxx-xx
7D0-03-01 xx00-xxxx-xx

Heated Seats
7D0-01-01: xxxx-xxxx–x3xx

I did not import it and changed the two settings you mentioned for powerflow and it worked. Thanks for the info. Your Asbuilts in that file compared to the ones I pulled on mine from Forscan were somewhat different. I was concerned with importing it all as there could be a bunch of changes that I was unsure about.

You can use asbuilt explorer to decode the differences using the database.
