Hello, I bought a ford focus model 2019 stline in europe (Finland). The VIN in ford website shows 2019 Focus (2018). On fordzona website, the VIN decoder shows Build Date : 21.09.2018.
The car from when I bough it had --.-- instead of current time. Goint ot the settings, the time and date, GPS, timezone, are all correct. The only problem is the time not showing on the top bar of the screen. The GPS in navigation works well, also FordPass is working well and showing me the location correctly.
The old version of the Sync3 when bought (with the time issue in it) was : 3.4.21265. I took it to Ford dealership, they upgraded it to 3.4.23188 and I performed a master reset. Still the clock showing --.-- while being correct in the settings. Well they told me the whole module should be changed to solve the problem. I said no (more than 800 euros).
Nothing have been changed in the car with Forscan. I have the OBDII cable to activate deactivate some functions, but the car have everything, nothing need to be activated. I’m using it just to diagnose in case.
I have been reading similar issues, but they don’t apply to my case as I assume no value in the BCM or APIM have been changed, nor any Fmods have been installed.
My questions are :
-how can you solve that problem as the system is already up to date ? does Syn3 updater apply in this case of system already up to date? if yes, will I lose FordPass if re-updating using Syn3 updater ?
Thank you so much,
SYNC Region: EU
Navigation Variant: Nav
Manufacturer Year: Pre MY20
Install Type: OEM
Old SYNC Version: 3.4.21265
New SYNC Version: 3.4.23188
Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
nothing
Thank you for your reply. Yes the car is for EU market. And you are right, I just assumed that nothing have been changed. As in Finland, they add the engine block heater and the towbar, maybe some values were changed.
I don’t have any idea what is the storage size of the APIM. I should run the interogator to get this information. (The size should no less than 32GB as it has navigation. how will it help determine the issue?)
I will give it a try, I’ll compare the asbuilt with the current APIM value and be back to you.
If the vehicle is for the EU market it should be 64GB. Some vehicles were imported and may have a 32GB one.
The idea behind checking the APIM’s capacity was trying to confirm if it was for EU or not. Not scientific since an APIM can be upgraded as well, but…
This really seems to be an as built value issue…
Thank you for the replay. Waiting for a windows laptop, I was digging a bit into the Sync 3 APIM database as @Rollback_Jockey mentioned in his comment.
So I went and got asbuilt data from motorcraft using my VIN and started to compare the database values description and the asBuilt data. I was also reading this following post about circular volume menu : Sync 3 Volume Graphic changed on display , so that took me to read the database and try to understand what’s going on with the time showing –.– in hope that some parameters are missing. I was looking into https://cyanlabs.net/asbuilt-db/sync3-apim/, and selected THEME. This is because I read before that the partial view of the top menu can be affected by Fmods and enabled functionalities such as rear camera. Well, I have none of that, nor the rear camera, but just led me to read it. Now that I have sync v3.4, here what I found:
-DE02/7D0-03-01: xxxx-**xx-xxxx : asbuilt (01) = Ford Timeless (Blue Theme, Blue Buttons) for sync v3.0 to v3.3. for v3.4 the 01 = Obsolete (Old Ford Timeless, in 3.4 sets Ford MY20 theme with custom Boot Screen).
-Also DE01/7D0-02-01: xxxx-**xx-xxxx, I have asbuilt(01) = 01: Ford/Lincoln (Default under 3.0 thru 3.3) and it means Ford/Lincoln (Not Used in 3.4) in v3.4.
Now my assumption is that the car came with these values as the version that was installed was < v3.3. Then when the owner updated and moved to v3.4, the APIM values are not matching anymore.
I went and entered the test mode of sync 3 in my car, I went to the themes, and I did not find Ford timeless theme, It was selected on Ford MY20. Even applying other themes like ST and RS and so on, nothing is changing in the theme.
My question is if now I update ** in DE02/7D0-03-01: xxxx-**xx-xxxx with (00=Ford MY20 (6.5"/8" Screens) (Old Ford Classic, in 3.4 sets Ford MY20 theme with custom Boot Screen)) instead of 01 as I have in the asbuilt, and maybe DE01/7D0-02-01: xxxx-**xx-xxxx with 16=ST Line (Ford-MY20 w/ST Line animation), could it solve the problem?
What does “Not Used in 3.4” mean ?
Thank you
Solution Found. thanks to @SaNdMaN and @Rollback_Jockey.
My APIM is not MY20, and it is 64GB for EU Market (I used the interrogator tool to confirm).
I went to check the AsBuilt data present in the APIM using Forscan (It was hard for me to understand the format collected by the interrogator). I compared it with the original AsBuilt data from Motorcraft. I realized that the previous owner probably messed with the configuration especially the branding when he was trying to change the theme. Anyways, It should be strictly mentioned Ford if it is a Ford brand. like here : DE00/7D0-01-02: *xxx-xxxx-xxxx, it should be 0 (B Ford, Not a Hybrid (HEV) Vehicle, USBOSTD Enabled) in my case (it was C before : B Configurable SplashScreen, Not a Hybrid (HEV) Vehicle, USBOSTD Enabled). https://cyanlabs.net/asbuilt-db/sync3-apim/?search=Brand%2520Identification%2520(B)
Also, because my APIM was at the last version of 3.4, keeping DE02/7D0-03-01: xxxx-**xx-xxxx to 01 (01=Obsolete (Old Ford Timeless, in 3.4 sets Ford MY20 theme with custom Boot Screen)) automatically used new blue theme Ford MY20, so I was wrong, keeping asBuilt 00 or 01 for 3.4 APIM will automatically set Ford MY20 theme and even I changed DE01/7D0-02-01: xxxx-**xx-xxxx to 16 for ST line, it did nothing, it kept stock splash screen. (01 was kept in my AsBuilt).
I’ve been also able to bring the climate icon, with the voice control and heated seats and steering wheel icons, with temperature repeater in top menu for dual zone with rotary temperature update when increasing/decreasing temperature or fan speed using hard buttons. But the best thing is the time returned to the top menu from –.– to the current time (Most probably it was because of the brand not mentioned in the APIM).
Pictures are attached here with current asbuilt I have now.
The pictures with temperature repeater in top menu without the climate icon in the bottom menu were before I activate the climate control type to auto. Then It appeared like you can see in the last picture. The climate came first without steering wheel and heated seats icons, so I used forscan APIM list to activate them.
