Odd DTC errors after APIM replacement

I converted my 2015 Ford Fusion SE from Sun 2 to Sync 3 about 6 or 7 years ago. Recently the APIM failed and I replaced it with one from a salvage yard. I thought I got it all working (copied APIM settings from a 2016 Ford Fusion), but Forscan has been throwing a bunch of errors.

These issues have nothing to do with the APIM as the APIM does not control any of them. This is more like a bad or low battery. I assume you deleted the old profile in Forscan and started a new one when you put in the new APIM? I am also guessing that you cleared these DTC’s after the swap?

You could also have something that is interfering with network communications, but I doubt this is the case. I recently had glass in a plug on a module that I got from a wrecking yard. The glass kept it from being plugged in correctly. Once I removed that it worked fine.

Hi Bill, Thank you for your reply.
The battery is pretty new (a year old). Forscan would not recognize the old APIM before the replacement. Like I said, everything is working as it should, except for these errors, which I tried to clear using Forscan, but it keeps coming back. I felt like it was a configuration error on my part, not that I paid attention to any errors when I originally swapped from Sync 2 to Sync 3 6 years ago.

Could easily be a configuration error like you mentioned. Upgrading from Sync2 to 3 won’t cause these errors though. Unplugging the faceplate panel will cause the errors show though. Once you plug that back in and clear it those should go away. Did you do the swap with the ignition in the on position?

1st problem is that the 2016 Fusion was MFT not Sync 3, so you’ve got a bad AB loaded in.
You need one from a 2017 SE.

No, the ignition was off.

I will download the as built from a 2017 Fusion. Oddly, the one that Carmax had for sale showed pics of Sync 3.

Here is the Sync 3 one from my 2014 SE upgrade
Depending on what you have in your car, the items you might need to change here are:

  1. its for a NAV APIM
  2. It has heated seats & wheel
  3. parking sensors are rear only.

You’ll need to pull off the .txt on the end to be able to load it directly into ForScan

Thanks Warlock. I compared yours to a 2017 Fusion, and my existing one in a spreadsheet created by one of the regulars (I think F150Chief). I created a new column, which I believe answers the deltas between yours and mine. I will give it go tonight and report back. Thanks so much for your help.

Uploaded the attached .abt file. Still have the errors.

Let’s go back to basics here on these errors.
Have you done ANY other mods or attempted any other mods?
Some of these remind me of errors that guys had when trying to add things on 2014-2015 Fusions using settings that only worked on 2013s (one off year with different logic).

Since you have a licensed ForScan, if you haven’t done any mods let’s start by taking the PDM, DDM, FCIM and loading the factory defaults into them.
Once you complete that pull the battery cable for 30-35 minutes so that every module in the car will get a clean cold boot

If you’ve done some mods back the individual ABs up so that you have a copy, it will make them easier to put back or compare to factory to see if you made a mistake.

I haven’t done any mods. I will back up and restore factory defaults and report back.
