upgrading a 2018 sync 3 with nav from 3.0.xxxxxx to 3.4xxxxx, details into software ok. since it went wrong i have tried using the reset buttons, and removed battery connections for 15mins. Still completely black, no audio, chimes, no blue or red displays. USB ports aren’t powered either. Checked the fuses in footwell. Connected via forscan and not errors, checked and re-wrote the AB data just incase but no change

Did you run the Interrogator Utility determine if the APIM was MY20+ or not?
Or look with FORScan to identify the APIM. On the connection section look at the tabs across the top and look for the configuration tab. Scroll down and find the APIM and get the part number.

Based on the heading of your post you removed the USB stick too early and possibly caused your issue.
In the Syn3 Updater instructions it says you should ignore the first message about removing the flash drive and allow the system to reboot and complete the upload.

You could try the upload again leaving the stick in until you get the final completed message after 30 to 60 minutes with Nav and then do a master reset with the engine still running.

Updating a 2018 Mustang GT Sync 3 with nav from 3.0.xxxxxx to 3.4xxxxx, details into software ok. After a a minute it told me to remove the usb as the update was complete and to restart the car which i did. Screen hasnt worked since and no audio since either.

Since it went wrong i have tried using the reset buttons, and removed battery connections for 15mins. Still completely black, no audio, chimes, no blue or red displays. USB ports aren’t powered. Checked the fuses in footwell. Connected via forscan and no APIM errors, checked and re-wrote the AB data just incase but no change

Returned today and to update: Didn’t run the interorgator, had no reason to believe the APIM would have been changed. and nothing in the history i have. I’ve just plugged into forscan and have the following info the the people that tried to help me (sorry again for delay guys)

I went on a long drive yesterday with the USB in and nothing changed.

Just checked the APIM calibration files. not changed anything but for USB2 it says “disabled”. I haven’t tried changing this as i don’t know if it thats for something different?

This is a Ford Service Replacement APIM and is MY20+ EMMC. The unit is bricked.
This is documented in the APIM Database here and would have been revealed if you ran the Interrogator Utility before you reformatted the unit.

ahhh man. Thanks for the reply. Had no reason to believe it would have been replaced. no way of recovering it then?

Sure, take a look at that but review the overall process (I’m not sure if there’s any tutorial out there), you will need to gain physical access to the board and send some CAN messages (from what I recall).

So, you will need to get your hands dirty. But hey, as far as we know, it may work.
