Problem with GPS Position in SYNC3 Navigation

Hello,

I have upgraded hardware from SYNC2 to SYNC3. The installed version is 3.4.23188 with the latest maps. I am using the original GPS antenna and the original FAKRA cable.

The problem is that sometimes the navigation loses track at the beginning, showing that I am driving through fields far from the actual road. Sometimes it corrects itself within a few seconds, but other times I need to drive 5-10 km before it properly displays my position.

The GPS signal is very strong, as I constantly check it in the SYNC3 test settings.

I am sharing a folder containing a few photos, my SYNC3 configuration file (.AB), and the VIN number.

Is anyone able to suggest what I could do to fix this frustrating issue?

SYNC Region: EU

Navigation Variant: Nav

Manufacturer Year: Pre MY20

Install Type: OEM Replacement

Old SYNC Version: 3.4.23188

New SYNC Version: 3.4.23188

Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
No errors

Update Method: CyanLabs Manual Method

Did you try a sync master reset?

Yes, I made master reset … didn’t help.

The nav accuracy is way off, it should be sub 10 meters. The time to first fix is too long. All of this is independent of the Vehicle Settings, this is an indication that the antenna is weak. The fact that the GPS is wandering, and the location fix is not accurate would bear this out. Just because the APIM can see the satellite does not mean the signal is good enough to decode the GPS positional data. Keep in mind the nav and satellite receiver are not controlled by Sync 3 and are independent subsystems of the APIM. These could also have issues by themselves which can cause these issues. However, it comes down to the satellite data is not correct and you can’t fix that through Sync.

But here is the issue, your specific vehicle data is missing from the asbuilt:

7D0-07-02 0000000000E0
7D0-07-30 000000000E1
7D0-07-04 00E2

Your factory asbuilt indicates that your vehicle was originally equipped with Sync 2 and that this is a replacement Sync 3 APIM. The data was likely never filled in for your vehicle, hence the NAV issues. Probably other issues as well.

Your vehicle is a 2015 Ford Mondeo Wagon? If so, this data from a 2016 with Sync 3 should work to fill in the missing data…

@F150Chief, thank you very much for your time and for providing the data to help resolve the issue. Yes, my car is a 2015 FORD MONDEO WAGON (2.0 TDCI, 4x4), which had its SYNC2 replaced with SYNC3.

Today, I received a new .abt configuration file from the SYNC3 seller so that I could upload and test it. I have just done that and will now test it. If it doesn’t help, I will replace the data with the one you sent me.

At the moment, today I have uploaded the following configuration:

Missing this specific data was probably the problem. After filling data in BLOCK 7 in the configuration, everything seems to be okay. I drove about 300 km today with a few stops, and the navigation worked very well.

Thank you again for your help.
