Problems with APIM to install Sync 3.4

I want to install Sync 3.4, but I have problems.
I’ll write everything from the beginning, all the actions, mistakes.

I have a Ford Escape USA 2017 Titanium.

Actions:

  1. Unsuccessful attempt to flash APIM calibrations to My20+: Sync’a corruption of the Chinese ELM.
Experience has shown that the purchased Chinese ELM 327 (USB connector, with HS / MS CAN switch, using PIC18F25K80 and FT232RL chips, Kingbolen manufacturer) works well for changing the module settings. Sufficient speed and absence of errors on the CAN bus are required to flash the modules. Various driver settings, settings in Forscan did not give sufficient speed for flashing (maximum speed 38400bps, minimum delay 11ms, CAN Error increased after unsuccessful firmware from 0% to 16%, and there is still one unknown command, which is 0.1% ). A bunch of warnings, the probability of getting a brick is more than 50% with firmware, it did not stop me. As a result - a brick, ordering the recommended cable, while waiting for delivery - trips with a black screen in silence (so-so pleasure).

  2. Successful flashing of APIM calibrations up to My20+ with the recommended Forscan cable.
A very detailed article on firmware Firmware APIM.

Comments:
Forscan recommended vLinker FS cable: 300000bps, 3ms, no errors.
After the firmware, errors appeared:

  • Standard:
APIM: Code: U2100 - Primary configuration not configured
APIM: Code: U3000 - Control Module
  • Non-standard:
IPC: Code: U0558 - Invalid data received from front control/display interface module.
    Generally stopped turning off Sync.x
  1. Changing block 6 settings in APIM (AS Build):
Constantly working Sync obliged to immediately take measures to eliminate this shortcoming:
  • a solution was found on the Internet with the replacement of a byte in Apim (As Built): Block 6: 7D0G6G1805E with 7D0G6G1815E.
  1. Changing block 2 settings in APIM (AS Build):
During the operation of the car and the search for a solution to upgrade Sync 3.0 to 3.4 on a strange APIM, another problem appeared.
Another Sync poll log by the GB5T-14G386-AC utility - nothing has changed.

Issues, possibly unrelated to APIM, prompted me to continue tweaking it:

  • the car stopped opening when you put your hand to the door handles with sensors, on the contrary, it began to close by sound (it opened before).
  • when pulling the handle once - no reaction (earlier the car opened, in the sense that all the doors were unlocked)
  • Intermittent IPC Error (Code: U0558) - Invalid data received from Front Control/Display Interface Module.
It was decided to write to APIM the old values of block 2, which changed after flashing to My20:
Changed value in Apim (As Built) :Block 2: 7D0G2G20240900000AD to 7D0G2G202401000002D.
As a result, even more problems appeared:
  • Sync’s language has changed to English without the possibility of choosing Russian,
  • instead of navigation, a compass was displayed.
Returning block 2 values to Apim, resetting Apim and Sync does not give any results, which is very strange, because. in the APIM settings: COUNTRY CODE = RS, it’s not clear what happened in navigation.
All proceedings take a lot of time, and when you get unexpected results, you fall into a stupor.
I already want to reformat Sync to 3.4 in order to avoid the problems received, but I feel that I have misunderstood the file system and will break sync.

SYNC Region: EU

Navigation Variant: Nav

Manufacturer Year: Pre MY20

Install Type: OEM

Old SYNC Version: 3.0.16280

New SYNC Version: 3.4.22251

Do you have a error message, if so what is it?

Here is the problem.

2017 Ford Escape
This is where you started…
Ford Escape USA 2017 Titanium.

Calibration: GB5T-14G375-CA
Sync 3.0.16280.

Is this where you are at now, or something different?

Calibration level: HB5T-14G371-CCA
Strategy: 1U5T-14G374-EM
Calibration: 1U5T-14G375-FA
Sync 3.4.22251

Your vehicle does not support this configuration. Although the APIM will function, it will not interface to the vehicle properly with the level of firmware and Sync app. You will need to decide to upgrade the APIM to a late J or K series or downgrade the H series to the MY18.5+ -DA level, running Sync 3.4.19101 to interface properly with the older architecture on the vehicle. However, if you with to be at the latest firmware and software for Sync, there will be inconsistencies due to the lack of CGEA 1.2 and C1CMA support in the latest versions.

Thanks for the answer. That’s right - I started, now I’m here, but Sync 3.0.16280.
I really hope that flashing APIM will help eliminate the problems that have arisen.
But the issue of installing SINC 3.4 remains open, because. there are nuances with the APIM memory when polled by the GB5T-14G386-AC utility (it should be 32GB, but there is about 9GB, the memory structure is not displayed, for example “/fs/usb0/, /fs/tmpfs/ … “)
<d2p1:AdditionalAttributes logGeneratedDateTime=“2022-11-17T17:19:48+00:00” RAM=“1054367744” vmcuVersion=“Vector_VMCU_02.02.20”>

Downgrade the H series to the MY18.5+ -DA level:
This means, GB5T-14G375-DA or 1U5T-14G375-DA?
In the future I plan to install Sync 3.4.

1U5T-14G375-DA
Sync 3.4 will work fine with this cal level. Remember though, you have a vehicle that will not support some of the Sync 3.4 features, but it will work.

I flashed APIM to 18.5+.
GB5T-14G376-AA
1U5T-14G374-DA
1U5T-14G375-FA
GB5T-14G379-AA
JB5T-14G379-BA
Now the sync is always on, and does not turn off.
Maybe I flashed the wrong file Illumination Strategy JB5T-14G379BA (the factory was GB5T-14G379-BA)? May be I need to flash HB5T-14G379BA?

Do you mean this ? → SYNC 3 FAQ's And Common Issues - CyanLabs - Screen Isn’t Turning Off When Car Powered Off

I have tried this method.
As a result, I receive a message: “Emergency Assistance is not operational. Please visit your dealer for service”.

In your original post, or 2, you had this issue originally.
Do this…
Clear all the DTC’s and see what comes back when you run the vehicle.
Set 7D0G6G1 815F
Reload the entire APIM asbuilt at once using the "Load All’ button and write the config. Make sure the “Force write” parameter is selected.
Master reset.

The firmware you programmed is correct.
Is the APIM on Sync 3.4?

Thanks!
After flashed Apim 18.5+, I reload the entire APIM asbuilt at once, using the "Load All’ button, reset Apim, reset Sync. Thereafter my Sync 3.0.16280 does not turn off.
After Set 7D0G6G1 815F I have error Sync, I didn’t reload All parametrs. It is my mistake.
Than I again flashed Apim 18.5+, reload the entire APIM asbuilt at once, using the "Load All’ button, reset Apim, reset Sync
I did not have time to deal with the constantly running sync, so I decided to update the sync without changing the 805F strategy.
As a result, I have 805F and Sync 3.4.22252. Sync turns off well.

Yes, as expected. Sync 3.0 is not compatible with the MY18.5+ firmware. This is why I asked…

As it should.

@Tolcheek
Did you resolve all of the issues with the APIM upgrade?
Do you still have issues with the FCIM?

Thanks for your interest.
Sink 3.4 works stably well, but one problem remains:

  • after the firmware the APIM, the error of the IPC (dashboard control module) periodically appears:
Code: U0558 - Invalid data received from front control/display interface module.

IPC - Instrument Panel Control Module
Part Number: GJ5T-10849-TM
Calibration Level: GJ5T-10849-TM (last known: GJ5T-10849-TN)
Strategy: GJ5T-14C026-BM
Calibration: GJ5T-14C088-CJ

Maybe I need to upgrade firmware IPC?

I would say start with the FCIM firmware to see if that solves the issue and then to the IPC.

Ford IPC’s are prone to broken solder connections on the plugs, maybe the newer generation are starting to suffer from this.

Is this better than the SYNC 3.4 version?

I suspect a spelling error
