how can i confirm the APIM is original? (seen some people bricked theirs b/c hardware mismatch issues)

ive got a pending update to SYNC 3.0.20204 is there any benifit to doing that update 1st?
Run the Interrogator Utility and post the resulting file here.
FordPass is not usually affected, but you may need to reauthorize it.
You cannot go back to Sync 3.0.xxxxx versions once you upgrade. This is expalined in the Syn3 Updater instructions. Make sure you read those.
Your FordPass will need to be reauthorized after you do the master reset, it takes all of 2 minutes if you’re in cell coverage, you just say yes on the APIM screen just like you did when you set it up.
There’s no rollback, and you can’t backup Sync.
What year, model and part of the world is your car in (and was it a used import)?
You are safe to upgrade to Sync 3.4 using reformat.
The USB hub may need to be replaced after the upgrade to Sync 3.4 if you get a message that the hub does not support CarPlay. Being a 2018 vehicle, it probably already supports CP, so it should be good.
