Questions on upgrade NA Sync3 to EU maps

Hi,
I am not having any issues at the moment and just updated '19 F150 to EU maps.
I just have few questions from me to learn from to streamline my update process.
I did not find another way to create a Forum topic, linked to Sync 3, than going through "new Sync3 issue

I have read and learned a lot on the Forum on how to get EU maps on NA vehicles, but as some of the information on the Forum on this matter are 2 - 3 years old, I have few things I would to understand better.

In this thread from Oct 2021, Tutorial: Current EU Maps Installation on US Imported Vehicles it is mentioned that for EU maps installation on NA vehicles, a downgrade to version 3.3.19052 is needed (from version 3.4) to be able to utilize the reformat tool.
a. Is this still needed?
i. If so, it is due to space limitation on the NA versions, being only 32 GB maximum storage?
ii. Does this also apply if the maps are heavily cut down and do not take up a lot of space?
b. Is it still needed first to update maps with version 3.3.19052 and then upgrade to version 3.4 as a two step process instead of updating maps and upgrade to version 3.4 in a one go?
Is it still valid that the maps are not compatible with version 3.0?
When the USB drive is finalized, and I would like to use another USB drive for exactly the same update, is it enough to copy the files to USB drive with exFAT format or does the drive needs to be cloned?

First of all, kudos to you for doing some research before getting at it!.

Now, to answer your questions:

Yes, it’s still needed. And even though the thread is from Oct 2021 it’s been edited / updated on Dec 6th 2023… so it’s current…

The limitation resides on that the leaked reformat tool was blacklisted in earlier 3.4 versions, so it cannot run. One workaround for that is to downgrade to a version where the tool is not blacklisted. It does not need to be 3.3 necessarily, some early 3.4 also allow running the reformat tool. It has nothing to do with the maps.

Yep, it has nothing to do with maps but with the Sync3 version itself.

It’s not required, if you are going to reformat the unit, you could create a single reformat USB with Syn3updater with the proper cut-down maps package selected.

Yes, they are not compatible.

The variables resides in the vehicle that will run the USB. If the vehicle has the same configuration / situation like the one for what the USB was created originally then yes, you could re-use it. If you need to use OTHER USB it’s recommended to let Syn3updater create it because Syn3updater performs some checks to ensure the files were properly copied (hash verification, for instance), but you can create the USB manually as well.
