I recently upgraded from SYNC2 to SYNC3. I have the latest version, SYNC 3.4 23188, with several installed mods. However, I don’t like some of them, so I’d like to reinstall a clean version of 3.4 23188 and then add only the mods I actually like. Since I’m still learning, I have a few questions. I’d appreciate any advice! My APIM version is: JR3T-14G371-FED (from what I can see, it’s not MY20. I checked using the log).
I downloaded the “UNIVERSAL SYNC3 REFORMAT” files from FMODS onto one USB drive.
Using SYNC3 UPDATER (CyanLabs), I’m preparing a second USB drive. I selected that I currently have version 3.4 23188 + the latest F13 maps (Europe). It shows that the update will be done using the “downgrade” method. Or better option will be “reformat” method?
Is this the correct procedure? I want to make sure I don’t mess anything up during this process.
Having said that, if you already are planning on using FMODS’ universal reformat package, you do not have to worry about MY20 since that tool is compatible with MY20 hardware as far as I know. JR3T-14G371-FED is not MY20 as per our hardware DB.
I’m not familiar with how FMODS’ tool works, but you can read The Different Install Modes - CyanLabs to understand the different installation modes Syn3updater uses.
So the downgrade is only relevant for installing Sync3 3.x version that’s compatible with Ford’s reformat tool. If that’s not required for what you are going to use, then you could skip that I guess.
Finally, we do not support JB, again.
So maybe you should look into their site as well.
According to the information I found on the internet, I need two USB drives. On one, I install UNIVERSAL SYNC3 REFORMAT, and on the other, I prepare a USB with the package from your SYNC3UPDATER program (CyanLabs).
When using SYNC3UPDATER, it automatically shows that if I want to keep the same version 3.4 23188, the installation method is set to “DOWNGRADE”. My question is: should I leave it like that, or should I prepare the USB using the “REFORMAT” method instead?
