SIGN_ERR01 when trying to update from Sync 3.0.17194

Hello everyone,

I have been trying for quite some time to update the SYNC 3 with EU navigation in my F-150 to the latest version. My original goal was to update to SYNC 3.4 using CyanLabs.

I prepared my SanDisk USB 3.0 64GB stick using the CyanLabs Sync 3 Updater 2.0 and then tried to perform the update. After inserting the USB stick, nothing happens for about 10 seconds. Then I get the error message SIGN_ERR01.

I then performed a Master Reset and tried the whole process again, but I still get the same error.

After that, I decided to try the official Ford update method instead. The version Ford provided for download was 3.0.23219. I downloaded the files from Ford using my VIN and prepared the USB stick accordingly. However, I get exactly the same error.

I also tried a different USB stick, a Sony USB 2.0 16GB, but unfortunately that didn’t work either.

When downloading the SYNC update files from Ford, I noticed that according to their records, version 2.3.17109 should be installed on my vehicle. However, the version actually installed on my system is 3.0.17194.

I also read out the APIM part numbers. They are as follows:

Assembly Part Number: JS7T-14G371-CDC
H/W Part Number: HS7T-14G380-BB
CCPU S/W Part Number: JR3T-14G381-AG
VMCU S/W Part Number: GB5T-14G374-CD

I also have access to FORScan if that is necessary or could help with diagnosing the issue.

Maybe this information will help identify what is causing the problem.

Sounds like a bad USB port or media hub.

When you do a Sync update you also want to make sure that nothing is plugged in the other USB port, not even a charging cable.

Since I regularly use both USB ports for Apple CarPlay and music playback from a USB stick, they are unlikely to be defective.

Before starting the update, I unplugged everything and made sure that the only device connected was the USB stick containing the update files.

That part number is a 32GB NA NAV APIM, EU NAV APIMS have 64Gb to support the larger map set and number of languages.

Thanks for the info. But how should I proceed from here? My navigation is currently working, and I have the European map set installed (EU 4 14). Since even the official Ford update doesn’t work, I’m not sure what the next step should be.

Share the log created when you created the USB with Syn3updater. But this looks like an issue with your APIM.
