I have been trying to update my software and maps. But I keep getting SIGN_ERR01 every time.
It is a MY2019.75 Ford Focus Mk4, the interrogator said MY2020 protection was required.
It recently updated over Wi-Fi to 3.4.21194 but my maps are still stuck on V18.
Also V20 doesn’t seem to be available when MY2020 protection is on.

V20 maps are ESN locked meaning they can only be installed with reformat, and reformat isn’t allowed on MY20.

Run the interrogator log, redact your vin from the file name and content, and then attach the XML file here.
If your unit really is my20, then you will not be able to upgrade maps via Syn3Updater.

Hello, thanks for the log.
Yes, unless I’m mistaken, that’s a My20 APIM, so do not reformat it.
You could try auto-installing the maps, 1.19 are the latest you can install with his method. Since 2.20 are locked they need to be installed via a reformat, which you cannot perform.
Yep, that is a MY20+ APIM. Your option is to autoinstall only. Do not reformat the unit as Sandman states.
You should be able to get the maps from Ford for ANZ for your vehicle.

Unlike other markets Ford in Australia only offers map updates through dealers.
I’m not entirely sure of the process however, the local dealer has said they have a USB drive they stick into vehicles and if it updates it updates otherwise there is no update. They clearly don’t update this usb drive with the latest maps often.
My only option is to keep complaining to them I guess.
I did manage to update to 3.421265 at least.

Not really, you could try auto-installing 1.19 maps.
It should work without reformat, although I do not recall any previous case, since most autoinstall cases are for EU and NA, you can take this thread as reference → Tutorial: 2020 North America 2.20 Map Installation (Stand-Alone without Reformat) with Updated NAV_Voice 06/21/2021

Have you tried this website?
Ford - Sync3 Map Update (syncnavigation.com)
This is from the Ford Australia website:
SatNav Map Updates | Ford Australia
Customers with Ford vehicles equipped with SYNC® 2 & 3 Satellite Navigation who complete their scheduled servicing with a participating Ford Dealer are eligible to receive annual map updates for up to 7 years, where available (but no later than 30 September 2024)1. These updates can normally attract substantial costs and is just one of the benefits we offer our customers who return to get their vehicle serviced at our Dealerships.
Ford Australia has better map update benefits than anyone else, and it’s free. Since you have a 2020+ vehicle, this is your only option.

Unfortunately the Ford dealers have a reputation for not updating the maps.
I have a 20.75 Ranger that has 1.18 maps on it. On my last two services the paperwork has come back saying the map upgrade as been done but it clearly has not.
If the maps are ESN locked and they have to make a new USB stick up based on each car serial no. I can sort of understand why the don’t do it.
BYW the 1.19 maps you have for Australia are also ESN locked I have tried doing n upgrade but get an error similar to the OP.

ANZ maps are ESN locked. They can be installed via REFORMAT, but not on MY20+ vehicles (2020 and on…).

Based on recent findings, this is not true anymore. So you can’t do this either, seems you are stuck.

Yes, Australian VIN numbers don’t work.

I have seen the above site before, but the dealers are the issue. As I stated earlier, most of them don’t bother updating the maps they supply. I suppose it adds too much to the service time.
Admittedly I have heard some dealers are better then others.
Weirdly, the Ford Australia owners portal allows you to download software updates but not maps. They also ask you to supply the log created by sync when doing updates.

Can I also ask, what are the latest maps for ANZ? Is it V20 or is there a V21?
I just want my facts straight when I visit a dealer next.

No one knows for sure, the latest online links suggest 2020, but there could be newer that haven’t been found yet.
