Some APIM Settings Going Back to Default

Run the Interrogator Utility and post the results here. The settings not saving may be the result of the RWDATA partition being full.

This is the log. If you want the actual file that was created on the USB let me know. I did try downgrading to 3.3.19052 but I still have the problem with sync not remembering settings after restart.

Yep, sure enough the issue is the /fs/rwdata/ = 0 / 1.2G = FULL.

A reformat would fix this but since the APIM is MY20 you cannot reformat it. There is not workaround that I am aware of at this time, as even trying a JB would not work because the mod tools will not save. I suggest taking it in for service if it is still under warranty.

Thank you. Yeah it’s out of warranty. I will just probably deal with it for now because I don’t really want to spend the money to fix it at the moment. Thank you for the help!

Did you find a resolution?

I posted earlier in this thread, but seem to have resolved my issue for now.

2017 Edge, Europe.
Used the reformat tool quite some time ago, updated to 22251 around christmas.
But recently (last two weeks), I had the same issue with the unit forgetting the settings.
Found this thread, Interrogator utility came up with no free space in /fs/rwdata.

Had a hard time downgrading to the last 3.3 version, unit came up with the VER_ERR08 error. Last stick I made with the utility was a forced downgrade, which went through successfully.
I have just finished a fresh reformat and installation of the lastest 3.4 version, and now have roughly 900M free in /fs/rwdata.

I will regularly check if that folder is running full again - could it be an issue with the 22251 version? The VER_ERR08 and the lost settings came up in a couple of places in the search.

That’s about right. From what I have seen 938MB is the average.

It seems to be related, for sure, but I have not kept track of the versions I have seen this issue. It seems to be more an issue with the new builds though.

Thanks for the update.

Based on the nature of the partition’s contents, I wonder if there is a particular issue that’s producing a lot of logs that will end up filling that partition…

@tody , have you reinstalled the same build you previously had?. If so, I would recommend running the interrogator log in about a month or two to see how the partition is doing…

I’ve wondered about this. When I initially JB’d mine and added SSH access, I noticed by default that these things log a LOT of stuff, almost to debug levels and it’s stored on the flash instead of tmp space.

I brought this up in the FMods Discord and Auron chimed in saying they are cleared when sent to Ford. Million dollar question is when exactly does that happen?

It initially kinda irked me considering the Tesla flash wear issues they had in earlier models with all the logging they did and stored on eMMC.

Reminds me that I probably should add the SSH mod back in as kind of emergency access for this kind of situation.

I had 22251 before, and reinstalled it. Before, it was an updated 22251 of whatever came before, the reformat took place some time ago.
I will keep an eye on available space. My wife has an Ecosport, also reformatted, directly to 22251. I will check free space there as well.
If that were an issue with the 22251 in general, I‘d expect a lot more people to ask for help though.

@SaNdMaN Checked the wife’s Ecosport. Reformatted just before christmas directly to 22251, free space in rwdata down to 690MB.

Look it this way: most users that are on the forum it’s because Ford won’t given them 3.4.
So, most of the users used reformat on their vehicles, but their vehicles were never meant to run 3.4

Why am I saying this?, because who knows what’s being logged there…
It could be a combination of vehicle, build and configuration that’s producing excessive logging… all on vehicles / units that were never meant to have 3.4…

Having said that, these issues “started happening recently”, so it points to later builds… but again, who knows…

Without really knowing what the partition looked like right after reformat back in December, we can’t say much. But taking 900mb as baseline, it’s slowly degrading…

Lets see how your unit goes in about a month or two…

I guess we do not need to wait months, you can see the decline over days.
My Edge is down to 863M already, the Ecosport to 680MB, so free space is slowly decreasing.

What would be the most sensible thing to do?
Stick with the current install, go through all the menus and switch off all logging, while at the same time activating WIFI, and then wait for another two weeks what happens?
Or go through a reformat/downgrade directly, but to which version? Any consensus on which to try out?

I would install 3.4.21256 and see how things go with that partition in a few weeks. If this issue is build specific, there should be a noticeable difference.

Ok, that’s what I just did. Downgrade, Reformat, 21256.
I’m starting off with a whopping 991M on rwdata.

I revert to my posting above.
My Edge is still on 21256, still on the 2021 maps.
Run the interrogator again today, rwdata went down from 991M to 915M. I guess this is reasonable.

The Ecosport mentioned above is yet to be tested.

Hello. I’m back. I had my APIM replaced back in March 2023. I’m now having some of the same issues as before with the settings not saving. Reading through the forums, it looks like the rwdata partition could be full.

Forgive me, but where’s the tool that writes all the details to a text file? I’d like to see if that’s my issue.

I’m still on Build 22251_PRODUCT in my 2019 Ford F150.
