Stuck On "Please Insert USB stick..." Screen

I was updateing my SYNC 3 system, from Sync 3.0.23219 to Sync 3.4.23188, Inserted the USB stick everthing was working as expected, until the system reboted [The USB stick wasn’t toutched in this process], it got stuck on the “Please Insert USB stick…” Screen no matter what I did I’ve tryed 3 driffrent USB Drives 2.0 - 3.1. Although nothing seems to work. Even reverting back to to Sync version 3.3.19052 without Navigation.

Exactly what screen are you stuck on? Is this the reformat screen, not a black screen?

From what you are describing it looks like the unit is not responsive, or at least the USB is not responsive.

As per the documentation, make 150% sure no other device is connected to the car. Only the upgrade USB should be connected.

If no other device is connected (not even an SD card reader, or SD card) and you have tried on multiple USB ports, it’s worth mentioning that this seems quite generic

Try with a different one, from a quality brand like SanDisk.

It sill ended up failing although the USB shows that its receiving power. It’s also the same USB I used in the past to update the sync version from 2.2 - 3.0.

It’s still not detecting the USB drive and is stuck on the reformat screen.

I might try putting Sync 3.4.23188 on the new USB drive and trying to see if that works.

Use the other USB port and not the one in the center console.

I’ve tried that before the two rear ones are power only, and I can’t seem to get the front one working. In the past I’ve managed to update from sync 3 2.2 to sync 3 3.0 via the glovebox USB port.

I managed to get the recovery sync 3.3.19052 without navigation to work! I had to hold the fast-forward button and the volume center button down a few time [4-5] times, and It Took. Tomorrow I will reupdate it to sync 3.3.19052 with navigation. Thank you to everyone who helped its much appreciated.

There is no Glovebox USB port in any year Explorer. Do you mean the one at the bottom of the center stack?

Not sure what you mean however the USB port that I used was in the center console, popped the lid and it was at the top, could be the center stack.

Your description is correct now. The Glovebox is something totally different.

Makes sense, older USB hub with pass-through. The hub is actually in the center console bin, not center stack. Anyways, you should be able to update to the latest versions now.
