Sync 1 to Sync 3 upgrade on 2016 Ford F150

Thanks to this forum and post (Sync 1 to Sync 3 upgrade problem ) I managed to upgrade my 2016 from Sync 1 to Sync 3. I used a HL3T-14G370-GCD APIM and FCIM from a 2017 F150. I purchased a cheap wiring adaptor harness from Amazon. Harness seems to work fine.
I upgraded the APIM from 2.0.16074 to 3.4.23188 and map from 1.15 to 2.24 using syn3 updater 2.13.3.0.

I’ve gotten pretty much all the kinks worked out thanks to the above linked post. Everything seems to be working very well. Just waiting on a Nav antenna from Amazon.

There are only 2 things I could use some help with.

I’m getting an FCIM fault in Forscan Code: B1038 - Left Front Seat Heater Sensor with the new FCIM from the 2017. I don’t get the fault with the old FCIM.
My sync 1 2016 FCIM was pretty basic with manual climate control, no heated seat buttons and no rear window defrost.

The FCIM from the 2017 has manual climate control, heated seat buttons with three settings and rear window defrost button.

asbuilt for my original FCIM is
7A7-01-01 0000 0100 00B1
7A7-01-02 0000 0000 00B1
7A7-01-03 6000 5850 4600
7A7-01-04 00B3

asbuilt on the 2017 PCIM was
7A7-01-01 0020 0000 00D0
7A7-01-02 0000 0080 0031
7A7-01-03 0000 5850 46A0
7A7-01-04 01B4

I modified the 2017 PCIM asbuilt to be
7A7-01-01 0060 0100 0011
7A7-01-02 0000 0000 00B1
7A7-01-03 6000 5850 4600
7A7-01-04 00B3

Does 7A7-01-01 xx*x xxxx xxxx refer to the sync touch display or the dash cluster display?

My seats are actually heated seats but have the switch on the side of the seat. Is it possible to control the seat heaters with the FCIM switches? Can I swap the electonics from my old FCIM into the new FCIM?

Other issue is with the back up camera. Original owner must have had a backup camera installed as there is a Ford Unicam 2 module with a bunch of wires. I tried bypassing this module all together and just plugging the camera into the conversion harness. Got a blue screen when reversing. I have to plug the Unicam module in and I can get the rear camera to work. Is there a way to bypass this module? The zoom feature on the camera has never worked. Would I need to get an OEM camera to be able to remove the Unicam and enable the zoom feature?

Jeff

Sorry for the delay…did you make any progress on this?

You should be able to ditch the camera module and wire directly to the APIM, but not thru the adapter harness. @jmbach might have some guidance here. Attached is the wiring breakout foor the APIM, all versions.

As far as the FCIM, 7A7-01-01 xx*x xxxx xxxx refers to the sync touch display. The setting of 60 should be correct.

Yes, but needs asbuilt change at 7A7-01-01 xxxx Xxxx xxxx.

No.

Try this asbuilt: (The xx is the checksum bits, let FORScan calculate those.)
7A7-01-01 0060 8000 00xx
7A7-01-02 0000 0000 00xx
7A7-01-03 6000 5850 46xx
7A7-01-04 00xx

In 7A7-01-01 it is set for Start/Stop Strategy, do you have this? If not, change the 1 to 0.
1=Left Hand Drive (LHD), SSBS Equipped with Start/Stop Strategy
Do you have a heated steering wheel? It shows you do not.

This line will be either 6600 or 0000 for the first set. This is the sensor error. Yours is 0000 if it is a manual climate control.

I am not sure if you need an OEM camera for it to work.

Ideally wiring it directly to the APIM harness is best making sure polarity is correct.

You can potentially use this harness here to attach the camera to the APIM without having to rewire the connector. If it dont work initially, check polarity. Just be careful with the harnesses. I purchased one through Amazon that the wires were not wired correctly. Others I had no problems. The last one I got I had to swap one pair of wires to get the wiring correct. Check the wiring before using any harness.
