Yes I turned off “Dark Car” if that’s what you are referring to. Unless there is a blackout mode also that I don’t know about.
Is there a switch for that in the overhead console?
Negative. The only switch overhead is for the liftgate
Did you reset the BCM when you made the Dark Car changes?
You adjusted this?
726-32-01 xxxx xXxx xxxx
Police Dark Car
0=Null, 1=Dark
726-32-01 xxxx xxxX xxxx
Switch Type Cfg
0=None, 1=1 Button, 2=2 Button, 3=3 Button
I adjusted most things in the easy menu but I haven’t confirmed the changes carried over into the as built. I’ll check that next. What does the “Switch Type Cfg” do? I’m not sure which option needs to be checked for that? Thanks for the help!
This defines if there is an external physical switch for the dark car function.
I’m not sure where you’re finding that. How does it have the same address as dark car? I’m a little confused. Or do I need to verify that both of those numbers are correct in the same address?
Same address different byte. What values do you see for that address?
I figured it out! I had to disable silent mode! It fixed both the lock feedback and interior lighting issues! Thanks for all the help! And btw, where did you get that info about the switch type cfg? It sounds like you have a lot more as built data than I do
Kind of…
AsBuilt Databases - CyanLabs
I am the author and maintain the databases here on CyanLabs. This information is sourced thru Ford and other.
Oh that’s awesome! I just bookmarked that for future reference. Appreciate it!
Just a heads-up Sampson, while using easy mode I learned not all of those settings are accurate. So if you don’t get the desired effect using easy mode that does not necessarily mean it cannot be done by changing the values in AB.
When I added adaptive to my Explorer the Easy mode would not work. I found the correct setting in AB and changed that and it worked.
Yes, sometimes the easy mode can make unexpected changes. This is not because the FORScan app is broken or anything like that, just that every byte change in the asbuilt has a posibility of 4 changes, or combination thereof. It is recommended to use the database definitions, or indexes, to confirm the byte values for the change intended. The good thing is that at least in the APIM nothing bad is going to happen to affect the drivability of the vehicle…
Thanks I will keep that in mind. My next project is installing the automatic headlights hardware, but then I want to tackle the SYNC 3 upgrade. Do you recommend any specific harness for the sync 1 to 3 conversion, or just any harness on ebay should work? I’m seeing the prices range from $30 to $200+ so it’s difficult to decide which one to get
Edit: Also, I read in a forum that the automatic climate control doesn’t work in the PIU’s even if you get the automatic HVAC module, they said it still requires additional hardware. Is that true, or is it just the dual zone that needs additional hardware?
Just ordered everything. When I’m setting up the APIM can I use the easy menu? Or do I need to go into the AB for everything? Appreciate all the help, I definitely thought it was going to be much more complicated.
I haven’t ordered the auto HVAC unit yet, trying to find some confirmation that it will work with the PIU. I don’t care about dual zone, I just want the automatic climate feature
EDIT: I found the post I was referring to, and go figure it’s from @bill32399 haha.
you also followed up by saying “You need more than an HVAC module to make it work. It’s missing the door and the actuator in the HVAC unit itself. You can add the actuator and wiring but there is no door inside the unit.”
Is the door and actuator needed for auto temp control? Or is that for the dual zone features? Sorry for all the questions, I’ve almost got everything I need.
So the Auto headlights are super easy. Pretty much just a sensor in the dash, New light switch and an AB change. In every case I have seen the wiring is there for that in the dash.
As far as harnesses I don’t have a recommendation. I made my own and I think all the rest out there are super overpriced.
When it comes to the HVAC you can turn on the Auto Climate controls and they will work just fine. What does not work is the individual temp for the passenger side. You need a whole new front part of the HVAC unit itself. The door and servo are not in there to make it work. If you try to add the servo Ford made it so it will not fit so not even worth trying unless you want to pull the dash off and put in a new HVAC unit.
Oh funny that’s exactly what I said before. So yea dual zone is the part that will not work without major swapping on a PIU.
Awesome got it! For the auto climate HVAC modules, do I have to find one specific to my vehicle? I’ve been searching for the last couple hours and can’t figure it out. There’s like a thousand different Ford HVAC modules with different part #'s but they all look identical.
You need to make sure that it came from 2016-2019 Explorer Limited. Those used a CGEA 1.3 network. Prior years used a different network so they will not work.
Thank you very much, sir! I just scooped one up used for $110 18-19 FORD EXPLORER AUTO TEMPERATURE CONTROL COMPUTER MODULE OEM | eBay No clue if that’s a good deal but at least I have it
My only concern is that was pulled from an XLT. Most XLT’s did not have auto temp. Are you sure that’s different than what you already have?
You will need to change the VIN with Forscan on that module once you get it.
