I don’t know? The listing says its auto temp, and my current vehicle only has manual climate controls on the bezel… so I thought it was the right one? Somehow this is the most confusing part for me to source, I’m clueless.
And as far as changing the VIN for that module, is that setting in the module itself or some other settings in FORScan?
You might be fine than. When it comes to the HVAC modules the differences are the heated seat options. For the 11-15 there are 4 different modules. For the 16-19 there are 3.
I’m scrolling through forscan right now, I see a setting in the APIM called “VIN network” and it has PCM selected. Does that mean the APIM will pull the VIN info from my PCM when I install the new APIM?
In the HVAC modules, both easy menu and AB I do not see anywhere to program a VIN.
Where do I enter my VIN when I get the new modules installed?
The APIM pulls the VIN from the BCM.
For the HVAC you will have to do it manually. It’s the second line up for the VIN. Otherwise you will get a DTC but it will work fine.
You’re a legend man. Thanks for all the help and being patient with me. I’ll hopefully have everything installed before this topic closes, I’ll keep you posted (and likely have more questions ) Thanks again!
Next you will be installing a TCU I would bet. LOL.
I have much to learn before that ever happens haha. I’m pretty sure I found your website earlier when I was watching a de-policify video. You have the blue interceptor? That thing looks sick man. I really like the “interceptor” printed on the hood, is that aftermarket??
Nah I don’t do videos. Not my website but I did decopify mine. I have gone WAY deeper than he has though. Nothing against him.
Oh that’s crazy, what are the odds. I’m in the process of decopifying mine on the inside but I’m keeping the clean “undercover” look on the outside I’m stoked to get this sync 3, it will be the nicest media/entertainment center I’ve ever had in a vehicle. I’ve never even had android auto
I have literally done everything to mine except for Lane control and IA. They are on the list though.
Can you tell me if I got the right Harness? Do i need a harness for the factory GPS antenna too like This One? I’m not even sure if my interceptor has GPS. The new APIM I ordered has navigation so I’m not sure I would need it anyways
The harnesses look correct. Like I said I wired mine to resemble OEM. If it is a Nav APIM than yes you would need one of the GPS antennas for it.
The APIM i bought comes with it’s own GPS antenna. Did you plug your harness into your vehicles factory GPS antenna or did you use your own antenna? That’s my main question, do i need to plug my harness into the factory GPS or no? And I’m almost positive I don’t have GPS
For a 2018 all you need is a splitter that replaces the wire going across the bottom of the glove box. In rare cases you might have to replace the Shark Fin but I have only ever seen 2 instances of that and they were both 2016’s. This splitter also adds a plug for Sirius should you happen to upgrade the ACM. This will give you the OEM GPS antenna and works much better. No DTC going this route either.
Sorry, I am helping to many people with Explorers and forgot yours was a 2018.
No worries. I’m not sure how to make one of those splitters or what it needs to plug into. I’m getting all my info from a Youtube Video He plugs in his harness to the factory GPS at 9:20 in the video.
But then he also plugs in an aftermarket gps antenna? I’m so confused. I’ll just use google maps in android auto
He is just plugging into the old GPS module to get a MS-Can signal is all. The harness in the pic above are sold on Ebay. Just use the PN in the pic.
That was the first thing I did but I got results for a whole bunch of different Ford parts haha. I will take a better look today, thanks. I bought the the harness from the first link I sent but it doesn’t have that GPS T harness or anything to plug into that spot. Do I NEED that MS-Can signal? Most of the harnesses I have found don’t include it. Or should I just try to find your part number instead? OR just use the aftermarket gps antenna that they provide with the new APIM? I’m a little lost on this one
Should I just spend the $100 on the harness in the 2nd link that includes that plug?
Edit Update: I found the harness in your picture for $80 on ebay. I don’t know what I need though. I thought the 4" to 8" harness I bought had everything I needed. This is really frustrating and confusing. I just want the damn SYNC 3
Here are the differences I’m talking about. The first harness in the picture (the one I bought) doesn’t have the factory GPS antenna included. The second harness photo does have the GPS factory antenna included. Which one of these do I need to complete the upgrade?
and they both have 8 connectors total, so it’s throwing me for a loop
Either one is probably fine. I have never looked into these as I have always just made my own connections.
I sent a bunch of messages to the sellers and figured out that the harness with the factory GPS antenna is for upgrading to a sync 2, but is not required for a sync 1 to sync 3 upgrade.
