Hello everyone.
I have a 2013 F250 Lariat Powerstroke. I’ve unlocked the navigation using FORScan (I have fully licensed version) and added remote start kit “BC3Z-19G364-A Remote Car Starter Alarm Plug-N-Play Kit with 2 Key Compatible with 2011-2016 F150 F250 F350 F450 F550 Super Duty Lincoln MKX” I got from Amazon. Programming the keys was successful.
I recently bought a Sync 2 to Sync 3 upgrade kit from Ebay. They programmed the APIM with my VIN before shipping. Version is 3.4.23188, Nav is NA 223. MFG Date: 6/12/2020 by FoMoCo. Installation went quite well and everything functioned fine until I did a remote start. The truck started but the screen went black. I pulled the radio/SYNC fuse but this didn’t resolve the problem. After getting home and turning the truck on and off a couple times, the Sync 3 system would briefly work but would loop through shutting off/on. I should note that during initial setup of the Sync 3 I connected the truck to my Wifi and set it to do Automatic Updates.
I put my Sync 2 back in and all was fine. Working with the seller, they wanted to know some info so I had to reinstall the Sync 3 system. Everything is working back to normal but I haven’t done a remote start because I feel there is a discrepancy with the Sync 3 not recognizing that my truck has remote start.
Given the above information does anyone know if there is an issue and if Cyan Labs software or FORScan can resolve it?
You unlocked nav on Sync 2. Does not apply to Sync 3.
Probably not. If the unit was shipped from China is is likely counterfiet and not OEM. Lots of issues with these fake units.
Take a picture or supply the info on the unit including the part numbers and date of manufacture.
This is reinforced by the fact that reinstalling the Sync 2 unit made everything work.
Only one thing has exhibited a problem, remote start, which wasn’t included in my truck’s original build. Everything else works perfectly. Radio, bluetooth, phone, voice commands, backup camera, GPS/navigation, Sirius, USB, Android Auto, all button functions etc. I’ve seen people try authentic pre '20 APIMs as an upgrade have far worse problems or have to make numerous modifications to get them to fully function so in that regard I’m not doing too bad. I saw a post at the FORScan forum mention this tool (Cyan) so I figured why not try to see if someone here had any ideas.
This has nothing to do with Sync. You also did not need that kit, All you had to do was turn RS on in the BCM, Add a hood switch if you did not have one and program new keys and it would have worked.
My truck came with only one key/fob when I bought it so adding 2 more was definitely helpful and I got all of them to work. It also already had the hood switch. But the antenna helps with the whole “remote” part of remote start.
Rookies only get better with guidance from the pros.
Thankfully the Ebay purchase of the counterfeit APIM came with “free returns”. Thanks for the help.
