Sync 2 to Sync 3 black screen issue

Hello! I’ve got a 2014 Ford Edge Limited that came factory equipped with an 8" Sync 2 MFT system which I’m upgrading (or at least trying to ) to Sync 3. I’ve purchased everything I believe I need; GPS Antenna, USB Hub, the adapter cable for the USB Hub, the adapter plate for the USB Hub so it fits properly, the screen, the APIM itself of course, and an OBDLink EX cable. The cable connecting the display and APIM was missing when it got here so I picked one up on Amazon as well, although I believe everything should be compatible.

Anyways, I finally got everything installed and set up today but I have a completely black screen (not even LCD backlight glow). The USB Hub’s lights around the ports are on, and the IPC’s time is filled in which I believe is fetched from the GPS Antenna attached to the APIM. I was also able to retrieve an interrogator log (attached) so all signs point to the APIM itself working fine as far as I can tell.
Are there any troubleshooting steps I should take or anything I can do to confirm whether the screen, connector, or something else is the culprit?

Part Numbers & Details

APIM: KU5T-14G371-GJA (64GB Nav MY19)
Screen: GA1T-18B955-SA (8" Recessed)
USB Hub: HC3Z-19A387-F

You have an OBDLink cable… can Forscan see the APIM? Are there any codes?

I am able to see the APIM in FORScan, I can bring up the AsBuilt configuration and it loads as expected. I do have a previous DTC relating to the APIM however I’m assuming it came up during the hardware swap:

Code: U0253 - Lost Communication With Accessory Protocol Interface Module

Status (-2C):
 - DTC Maturing - Intermittent at Time of Request
 - Malfunction Indicator Lamp is Off for this DTC

Module: Instrument Panel Control Module

The LVDS cable is in place? The short one from the APIM to the screen…
Did the APIM come with the screen or did you buy it separately. If you purchased a new version screen with an older APIM this could be an issue.
Please post the part numbers of the APIM and screen.

You will need to likely adjust the clock master in the APIM asbuilt for the 2014 Edge.

The LVDS cable is in place? The short one from the APIM to the screen…

LVDS cable is completely seated in the connectors on both sides.

Did the APIM come with the screen or did you buy it separately. If you purchased a new version screen with an older APIM this could be an issue.

Separetly, the APIM is KU5T-14G371-GJA (MY19), screen is GA1T-18B955-SA (not sure of the exact model year but should be from a 16-18 Lincoln MKX I believe), basically the screen should be older than the APIM- not the other way around.

It’s older, 1st Gen Sync 3. This is from a 2016 Lincoln.

The APIM is from a 2019 Fiesta Mk8:
KU5T‑14G371‑GJA, 64GB, WITH NAV

Screen is 2016 Lincoln MKX
GA1T-18B955-SA

The screen age in relation to the APIM does not matter other than it is Not a MY20+ connected to this APIM. I think you might want to try another screen since the backlight does not even come up.

I figured that was going to be the case.
I do have another LVDS cable I’m getting today to try just in case. If that doesn’t fix it, I’ll be back with an update once I get my hands on a new screen

Thanks for the quick responses guys!

I have an L series APIM connected to a J series(2018) FCIM and it works fine for me. So like F150Chief said you can’t have the newer monitor with the old APIM but you can go the other way.

Great news! It was actually just a shoddy LVDS cable and I’m updating it to the latest software and maps now
