Hello everyone,

I own a 2020 Ford Escape MK4 imported from the USA. I live in Europe (Poland) and I would like to update my SYNC 3 system and install European/Polish maps.

Current version:

SYNC 3.4
Build 19200_PRODUCT

I’ve heard that it is quite easy to brick/damage the APIM during the update process, so I would really appreciate some help from someone experienced.

Could someone guide me step by step:

how to safely update SYNC 3 to the latest version,
how to install European maps,
whether I need reformat mode,
and what precautions I should take to avoid damaging the APIM?

I would be very grateful for any advice, recommended files, tutorials or proven methods.

You’re going to have to use the cutdown map generator.

A US/NA nav APIM only has 32GB of storage, an EU nav APIM has 64GB.

Hello.

What you need to do is changing regions, but we do not support it. You can take a look at the guide “Current EU Maps Installation on US Imported Vehicles”, but you are on your own (since we do not support it).

Also, since your unit is MY20 you can’t reformat it with syn3updater because you will brick it, but you can look into jailbreaking the unit and then reformatting it with FMODS’ universal reformat package that can handle MY20 hardware. We do not support jailbreak either.
