Sync 3.3 to 3.4 update and GPS problems and other weirdness

I’m not comfortable tearing open my dash and roof trim to get at the wires. I’ll probably try the 3.3 downgrade and then call it quits. I wish I could just completely disable gps. It’s really only a problem when it suddenly acquires a satellite signal, only to lose it 2 minutes later, which completely messes up Apple Maps until the phone reverts back to its own gps.

Try one of the external GPS units that are listed in F150Chief’s list.
They’re like $20

Other vehicle systems require the GPS signal, like active cruise control and emergency call, you can’t disable it. Although if it’s missing your will get DTC’s.

Does your SiriusXM work?
Try resetting the ACM thru FORScan.
This is a documented issue with some vehicles, and could have been triggered by the battery issue.

No. Pushing Sirius on the source screen does nothing. I stopped using Sirius after the trial expired, so it used to work. I just assumed it’s dead now because I never signed up. I’ll try resetting the ACM. In my original post I described how I did lose all audio completely for a few days at the same moment I lost GPS, before it returned literally with a BOOM.

Selecting SiriusXM on the screen should take you to the promo channel and audio should play, but you can’t go to other channels, etc.

Did the ACM reboot. Still nothing. Pressing the Sirius button only beeps. While in forscan I looked for anything pertaining to Sirius and only saw Sirius Travel Link, which is enabled. How intertwined is Sirius and GPS? Same problem affecting both?

In production, the same antenna (actually 2 antennas in one housing on the roof).

You might have a bad ACM. Use Forscan to perform a ACM self test.

I’ve performed the ACM self test, along with several others. The only error I ever get is the aforementioned U1A00 error on the APIM. I haven’t done the downgrade to 3.3 yet. Saving that as a last resort.

Just reading back thru the thread…

This leads to an antenna or connection issue. Have you checked the wiring path to the antenna from the APIM?

That’s what I’m suspecting too. But I’m not at all keen on tearing off trim to get to the connections. Just strange that it all coincided with the sync upgrade.
