Sync 3.4 2165 Micrphone, voice commands not working

I have been looking for a solution to this strange problem in my 2013 Ford Fusion for a while now. I have recently installed Sync 3 module on the vehicle and everything worked great except for Voice Commands and phone calls. When I press the voice command button on the steering wheel, the prompt does appear on the screen but the vehicle does not seem to hear me. Also, when I make phone calls, the person on the other side cannot hear me and some tell me later that they could hardly hear anything.

Based on advice seen here, I did the following:

  1. Master reset of the APIM module from the main screen.
  2. Disabled the equalizer in my phone and even tried other phones, to no avail.

Is there anything that needs to be programmed in the ACM unit? When I converted to Sync 3, I only changed the APIM and kept the old ACM. It was plug-and-play.

Did you convert from sync 1 or sync 2? Did you use a harness for the conversion?

I converted from Sync 2 and I did use a harness.

I suspect the harness did not connect the microphone properly to the Sync unit. There is nothing in the ACM or APIM to program for this, it is a physical connection. Did the harness come with a pinout diagram or wiring diagram?

Attached is the wiring connectors for all Sync units. You can compare this against the harness.

I will disassemble the unit tomorrow and write back here. It is too late here now in Jordan. Thank you very much for the help and I will provide feedback as soon as possible.

I checked the assembly and the harness and all ok. The problem is still there.

UPDATE:

I changed the APIM and it worked. Voice commands and calls are back.

Still, the old APIM showed no signs of malfunction except for voice commands and the calls thing. Do you think it needs programming or physical repair and how?

Look for bad pins in the big connector on the back of the unit. It could be the microphone amplifier has failed in the unit, which would not really be repairable.
